The Margin Specialist is a key role that, as a member of the HSBC Securities Wealth Middle Office, provides servicing for HSBC Wealth customers (brokerage multi-products) in achievement and alignment with the segment objectives.

The role holder will provide support and guidance as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to Financial Consultants (FC) and Premier Relationship Officers (PRO/SPRO) in the resolutions of multiple functions including, but not limited to, asset movements, reporting, trade settlement, and the administration of Margin Accounts as defined by FINRA and the SEC. The role holder should be familiar with Wealth product sets and execution processes, including but not limited to; Equities, Mutual Funds, Options, Fixed Income, ETFs, and Advisory Accounts.

Required Skills

Here's what you can expect on a typical day:
  • Foster and maintain a close relationship with supporting areas and business partners, not limited to: FCs/SPROs, Regulatory and Financial Crimes Compliance, AML, Legal, Tax, Wealth Middle Office, External Vendors as well as the WPB branch network.
  • Responsible in providing ongoing operational support, raising issues and concerns to management while devising solutions to better streamline processes and improve the customer experience.
  • Receive, review and analyze a variety of reports and documents for accuracy and follow up with appropriate key areas to ensure adherence to bank guidelines.
  • Liaise with the Front Office in the coordination of multiple varieties of asset movements, ensuring that issues involving timeliness are addressed and actioned appropriately, and any gaps are escalated to management
  • Act as a SME in the area of Brokerage Margin, including understanding and effectively communicating equity requirements and Margin Calls to ensure HSBC Securities complies with all FINRA and SEC guidelines. Successful administration will alleviate risk to the firm.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of activities, processes and brokerage related systems. Work closely with other MO departments to gain a basic comprehension of procedures for cross departmental functions.
  • The role holder must be able to function in a fast paced environment where needs and requirements may change rapidly, all while staying organized and paying attention to detail, avoiding Firm monetary, regulatory and reputational risk.


Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
  • Minimum of three years proven experience in Wealth Management Sales support / Middle-Office Operations and or related or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • FINRA Series 7, 63
  • Working knowledge of banking and brokerage operations, Securities products, as well as external regulations impacting activities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Planning, organization, prioritization and time management skills are paramount.
  • Capability to take ownership of tasks through to completion.
  • Collaborative and ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office and relevant brokerage/mainframe systems.
