POSITION PURPOSE
The Sr. Engineer of Design Build & Sustainment provides direction, leadership and administration of Supply Chain Projects related to facility design and encompassing areas such as budgeting, scheduling, and due diligence related to support of new construction, conversions, remodels, related programs and/or major capital improvements, investments, and new or sustainment initiatives.

This position leads / supports a wide array of projects related to The Home Depot Distribution Center Facilities infrastructure. This role has the responsibility for items such as scope definition and delivery, and ensuring design, quality, schedule, and financial objectives are met.  Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to distribution facility layout/design, construction, and concepting / designing of material storage and handling systems is essential for success in this role.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • 15% - Manage scope associated with upgrade/retrofit activities for assigned distribution center buildings.
  • 15% - Determine and manage capital and expense budgets associated with all assigned building level projects. Continually evaluates means to reduce construction costs and duration of projects.
  • 60% - Develops and administers the scheduling and progress against of all assigned building level projects. Provides regular status updates and associated reporting (progress, budget/financial and other reports as needed).
  • 5% - Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency within the Design and Build department and Distribution Center facilities. Support the Development of analysis and associated business case to demonstrate return on capital invested.
  • 5% - Assist in the development and maintenance of Design Criteria Manual (DCM) documentation, Exhibit Drawing standards and other standardized documentation for all platforms/DC formats.
NATURE AND SCOPE
This position reports to the Manager, Design, Build and Sustainment.
This position has no direct reports.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.

Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel more than 50% - 75% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 4+ years

Physical Requirements:

Most all of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with management of projects ranging from $50K - $20M.
  • Understanding of facility construction principles and related disciplines to include Architectural, MEP, General Contractors, and subcontractor resources.
  • Familiarity with the determination of warehouse storage systems requirements determination and related design principles.
  • Familiarity with the principles of material handling system (MHS) design.
  • General knowledge of warehouse processes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to distribution facility layout/design, construction, and concepting / designing of material storage and handling systems is preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical specifications and skill with ensuring compliance by outside vendors.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to material handling and storage system layout, design, and construction.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical specifications and skill with ensuring compliance by outside vendors.
  • Ability to think objectively and interpret meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to develop and deliver executive level presentations.
