At Wells Fargo, the Chief Technology Office (CTO) organization is leading technology transformation in a multi-cloud technology landscape by developing and delivering innovative products that delight our customers and speed to market banking products to our customers. As part of CTO, the Enterprise Application Observability Services Team is responsible for delivering innovative, scalable, stable, and secure products that provide deep business insight, operational insight, and predictive analysis. As a member of the team, you will be a key contributor to the development of products that provide full stack observability including application monitoring, logging, alerting, and visualization.
 
The Observability Solutions Sr Engineer will work with Line of Business Developers, Platform Engineers and SRE Partners to lead the design, development, and implementation of near real-time data streams, ingesting and enriching business and operational data from various sources across the organization as part of a new enterprise observability platform. 

The ideal applicant will have:

Demonstrated experience within the observability domain (i.e. Traces, Metrics, and Logs) in a diverse technology eco-system (i.e. multiple application languages, and cloud environments).
Subject matter expertise for distributed tracing, logging, and metric visualization using various Observability tools and frameworks (e.g. Elastic Stack, Grafana, Prometheus, etc) across a shared service platform.

Ability to integrate with other operational data platforms and tools including Kafka, Splunk, etc.
Strong professional experience with other observability products such as AppDynamics, Elastic APM, Open Telemetry, ITRS Geneos, Datadog, NewRelic, Prometheus, Grafana,  Zipkin, etc.

Proven track-record of partnering with internal customers, architects, engineers, and other technical partners to gather requirements, understand existing systems, and develop value-added products/services.



Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2+ years of experience with observability tools such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, or Kafka
  • 5+ years of Java or Python experience
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical development teams



Desired Qualifications

  • An industry-standard technology certification
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts
  • 3+ years of experience building solutions involving logging, metrics, and traces to provide observability of applications
  • 3+ years working with configuration and monitoring technology Grafana
  • Experience with RESTful API calls
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex technical problems
  • Knowledge and understanding of Cloud computing, PaaS design principles and micro services and containers
  • Experience with data streaming technologies and use cases
  • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with other business and functional areas



Other Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with Kibana to include developing and manipulating Kibana for visualizations and analysis.
  • Understanding of software design as it relates to ElasticSearch deployments or distributed computing / system architecture.
  • Experience designing real time and batch log analytics and search solutions using ELK stack.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to plan, model and implement solutions utilizing Kafka and ELK technologies
