Senior Android Developer

Who You Are:

As an Android Developer you play a critical role in designing and implementing mobile components of our Public Safety product suite in a native Android app, including collaborating with the development, product and user experience communities to drive performance, innovation with AI/ML, real-time event and data processing. As a remote developer, you must not only follow best practices, standards, and processes employed by our team, but feel comfortable contributing to them as well. You enjoy rapid iteration and working closely with Product to design UIs that will delight our users. You have a strong pulse on the cloud development community keeping up on news and changes as they come.

What you will do:
  • Develop native Android applications and frameworks and implement robust application architectures and complex UIs
  • Apply expert knowledge of Android system frameworks to solve novel problems
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application
  • Collaborate with the engineering and product teams, contribute to the definition of specifications for new features, and own the development of those features
  • Guide the team regarding constraints and best practices in a native Android environment
  • Proactively identify and solve bottlenecks; fix bugs and performance issues
  • Maintain code quality, organization and automation
  • Ensure testing strategy is followed within the team
  • Support the services you build in production
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of mobile development experience and:
  • Experience with Android development in an enterprise environment - You have developed and released an Android app as part of a product ecosystem or suite, for use at scale by customers of your company.
  • Strong command of Android SDK, libraries and development frameworks and best practices for Android development and distribution via marketplace/app store
  • Highly skilled in Android languages - Kotlin and Java
  • Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning
  • Experience with WebRTC
  • Experience with streaming media (video and audio) integrations, and with peripherals such as mics, cameras and other sensors
  • Knowledge of WiFi and Bluetooth stacks
  • Cloud native CI/CD practices
  • Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, and docker-compose)
  • Cloud computing platform (we use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Services)
  • Issue tracking and collaboration (Jira and Confluence)
  • Experience working with Agile development frameworks

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
