Job Description

GraalVM is an open source research project at Oracle Labs aiming to develop new language execution technology to make programs run faster and developers more productive. Its ambition is to be the future of the JVM. Using new research approaches, it leads to great performance improvements and opens the door to fast programs running in a single process while being written in multiple languages.

In order to assess GraalVM language-implementation performance, hundreds of benchmarks must be executed very frequently. The collected performance numbers are then visualized and analyzed by developers using internal tools to assess the performance impact of the code changes. Visualizing so much data is a complex task which requires good tools and friendly user interfaces. Among other problems, the current interface of the \"Bench Server\" tool only allows looking at averages and standard deviations. This is insufficient to visualize GraalVM performance numbers since the performance numbers are not gaussian distributed. Supporting violin plots and more advanced statistical metrics is then required to draw conclusions on the performance impact of a code change.

Implementing better visualization tools will significantly improve the developer experience, and it will accelerate performance-change detection.

This job code is utilized for the majority of our temporary hires. The individual is performing hourly job duties as defined under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
