The database performance team helps make the world's best cloud Database Platform, which combines the world's #1 database with Exadata, the most powerful database platform. We look at all kinds of workloads, including transaction processing, decision support, data mining, OLAP, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and customer relationship management (CRM) applications, Java, and customer workloads. We focus Autonomous Database performance as well as databases running in bare metal or virtualized (Xen/KVM) environments, including Exadata. We also produce performance-related white papers and demonstrate record-setting benchmark results. We work with the latest hardware architectures-SMP, massively parallel processing, NUMA, or clusters-using the most sophisticated database technology.

Your primary job responsibility will be to design, develop, and execute multi-user database workloads and monitor, profile, and analyze database and system performance and also investigate OS, compiler, network, and hardware issues that affect database performance. You will directly collaborate with various Oracle RDBMS development teams to devise performance test plans as well as debug and resolve performance issues. Your work will have high visibility, even among executives and senior management, and you will have immense opportunity to grow your professional network.

Job Requirements

We are looking for smart and passionate engineers who have strong background in relational database, operating systems, computer architecture, and networks. Required skill set includes:
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Good programming skills [C / Java]
  • Scripting [Shell, Perl/Python]
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Minimum education: MS in Computer Science or related field
  • Relevant industry experience: minimum 2 years
  • Location : Redwood Shores, CA

Exposure to kernel debuggers (gdb, dbg), system monitoring tools (mpstat, vmstat, iostat, sar) and profiling tools (perf, oprofile) are a plus. Experience with RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, etc.), Cloud (Oracle Cloud, AWS, etc.), Virtualization technologies (Xen, ESXi, KVM) and NoSQL database are a plus.

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
