Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Position provides peri-operative medical care within an inpatient hospital setting for an academic otolaryngology practice; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation, and functions within the scope of practice defined by the Physician Assistantâ™s specialty certification, BJH medical by-laws, and, where it exists, the collaborative practice agreement. Job Description Primary Duties and Responsibilities Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, resident physicians, and inpatient floor nursing staff and case managers to coordinate and carry out efficient, effective, and competent patient care. Carries out patient care in settings of inpatient hospital floor and observation unit (step down unit) including evaluation and management of patients, placing orders, admitting patients, discharging patients, and other inpatient care responsibilities. Work closely with inpatient coders and provide thorough documentation of patient comorbidities. Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care. Assess, treat, and recommend treatment for individual patients with disease states and non-disease-based etiologies, using advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. Direct care as specified by medial staff approved protocols. Perform standard post-operative wound care including dressing changes, suture/staple removal, NGT placement, etc. Initiate referral to appropriate physician after consultation from admitting physician or to other health care professional of problems that exceed the PAâ™s scope of practice. Manage populations of patients with disease states and non-disease based etiologies to improve and promote health care outcomes. Provides education to patients and their significant others, doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals to improve clinical care. Provides education to patients and their significant others to prepare for safe discharge home. Select, use, and/or evaluate technology, products, and devices appropriate to the specialty area of practice. Precept students and mentor other nursing staff. Serve as a leader/consultant/mentor/change agent to achieve high quality cost-effective patient outcomes. May provide management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects. Preferred Qualifications Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for theÂ Physician Assistant Â (ARC-PA), and successfully passed theÂ Physician Assistant Â National Certifying Examination (PANCE), achieving PA-C designation.Â Â 3-5 yearsâ™ experience working as physician assistant within an inpatient facility. Surgical patient experience a plus. Required Qualifications Graduate of PA program. REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current PA license to practice in the state of Missouri or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire; Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements). Grade S30 Salary Range $80,400.00 - $145,000.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
