HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD. The Lab of Integrative Multiomics in the US Military HIV Research Program is looking for Research Associate with a strong molecular biology background. Hands on experience extracting RNA/DNA, cDNA synthesis, and library prep for Illumina-based NGS required. Experience with automated liquid handling instruments, LIMS, running Illumina instrumentation preferred.

The Research Associate will perform research and/or development in collaboration with senior technical and professional staff, in addition to providing laboratory and technical support. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results, but maybe required to contributing to researching and writing methods for papers, training other staff as required. Strong communication, inter-personal skills, and high level of attention-to-detail are required for this position.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs NGS-related technical and research protocols in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff within our group, including but not limited to RNA-seq, HLA Typing, and Microbiome sequencing. (50%)
  2. Assists with the development of experimental and QC protocols within a given scope, write methods for manuscripts, and other technical writing. (20%)
  3. Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry. (10%)
  4. Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research. (10%)
  5. Other duties as assigned including training staff in basic molecular biology techniques. (10%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures; ability to meet deadlines of projects; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education: Master's degree in molecular biology or related field required or Bachelor's with minimum 3-5 yrs of experience. 1+ years of NGS-related experience preferred.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum of 0-2 years of experience required.

Work Arrangement: On-site

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
