Under minimal supervision, the self-directed Senior Principal Systems Engineer will define, monitor, and guide the development of novel or complex servo actuation systems through requirements definition and derivation, system performance analysis, and compliance tracking.  The role will collaborate at a senior level with development and test groups to assure that program requirements are fully understood and are achieved, with evidence, in a final system configuration.  Additionally this role will guide and review the systems engineering work of subordinate engineers.  The Engineer will recommend system engineering tools and define processes. They will support business development and work with customer systems engineers in definition of new program requirements. The role will be managing, reviewing and deriving requirements for the design and development of cutting edge control actuation systems (CAS) on gun hardened and space qualified programs.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Acquire or assimilate program requirements for challenging (complex or fast-paced) programs
  • Lead design reviews and program reviews as required, including preparation of presentation materials and guidance to subordinate engineers in preparing their material
  • Assist in the establishment of milestone schedules for major systems engineering projects. 
  • Perform to the program schedules established by the program managers
  • Evaluate system engineering tools and processes for improvement. 
  • Recommend improvements and upgrades to advance systems engineering performance
  • Lead IPT toward programmatic milestones (e.g. Design reviews, Qual testing, SW testing, etc.)
  • Work with Business Development in pursuit of new programs, and collaborate with customer systems engineers in development of actuation system requirements for new programs
  • Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance desirable

Basic Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of aerospace requirements and requirements management (e.g. DOORS, Jama):  Requirements verification matrices, derived requirements from customer to internal functional groups and down to suppliers and sub-tiers
  • Working knowledge of aerospace specs and standards (i.e. IPC, MIL-STD, MIL-SPEC, NAVMAT, NADCAP, IEEE, DID)
  • Expert knowledge of actuation systems, including dynamic systems and controls practices
  • Demonstrated expertise in system analysis practices and tools, such as MatLAB Simulink, TK Solver, pSPICE
  • Strong technical writing skill, and disciplined approach to documentation and presentations
  • Strong team collaboration and leadership
  • BS Engineering and 8 - 10 years’ experience in Systems Engineering
