About the Job

The Facilities electrical engineering team is focused on supplying 100% reliable power to our semiconductor manufacturing and testing sites. This role encompasses every aspect of the equipment life cycle including: designing, installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project managing all electrical work.

As a Power Distribution Engineer you’ll be directly responsible for electrical systems (120V to 15kV) in support of a semiconductor wafer fab.  The TI Facilities organization operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gasses, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state of the art manufacturing environment. Facilities works closely with TI’s manufacturing team to understand how the utility systems impact the process as well as how to reduce consumption.

FOCUS (Facilities Organization Collectively Unlocking Success) Rotation Program

In this program, you’ll be immersed in meaningful assignments giving you real-world experience and sense of ownership. As a participant in FOCUS you’ll rotate through two diverse and challenging power distribution engineering positions within the Facilities organization during a 2 year period.

Primary Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Execute and implement high level hands on projects that assess power distribution reliability, efficiency, and capacity by ensuring electrical equipment such as substations, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), static switches, fault fiters, lighting, and transformers are performing as designed and maintained properly.
  • Work with technicians in providing engineering plant support in the maintenance and troubleshooting of electric motors, electrical panels, and contractor management.
  • Engineer will accept responsibility and ownership for all aspects of the electrical system including code compliance, safe work practices, interdisciplinary coordination and communication, project status, reporting, schedule creation, and on-time execution in an interruption free manner.
  • Manage and ensure electrical equipment downstream of substations function properly and work with the site electrical engineering to coordinate substation work when dealing with voltages between 138kV and 480V.
  • Develop procedures inclusive of hot work and switching order approvals, permit approvals, attend industry training courses, problem solving, and cost estimating.
  • Respond quickly to system alarms and potentially critical situations, perform rapid and accurate situational assessments and troubleshoot system components.
  • Hands on utilization of multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes, and other electrical devices to troubleshoot electrical distribution in the field. 
  • Understand and construct root cause analysis and Failure Means Effects Analysis (FMEA) on electrical systems.
  • Seek out and implement innovative solutions to improve the reliability and efficiency of the electrical systems to better support manufacturing.

Specific experience, knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical gear and distribution systems. .
  • Relevant understanding of arc flash requirements, calculations and labeling.
  • Relevant understanding of specification and usage of power monitoring devices.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative, drive for results, and demonstrate ability to build strong, influential relationships.
  • Ability to analyze existing systems and associated monitoring equipment to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Ability to develop and update process and instrumentation diagrams, sequence of operations, and panel schedules.
  • Project Management skills (identify, prioritize, plan, execute, and follow up on numerous assignments in a dynamic environment).
  • Knowledgeable in the application and selection of variable frequency drives, motor control centers, integrated motor starter disconnects, and three phase AC motors.
  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Computer/software skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point.


Minimum requirements

Qualified candidates will be completing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required
