The Dean of Students Office is dedicated to transformational learning in the co-curricular guiding students towards greater resiliency and engagement. DOS promotes a cohesive campus community that brings people together across lines of difference and provides support during challenging times to allow all students to benefit from the educational and co-curricular environment. The Care and Crisis Services Team (CCS Team) contributes to Cornell University in three fundamental ways: helps create an environment that understands and promotes well-being for students; provides support to students in crisis or who are experiencing serious, on-going situations; assists the community in addressing conflict, particularly as it relates to identity and belonging. The CCS Team uses the Cornell Health mental health and wellness framework, as well as the identity and belonging focus of the DOS. The Community Response Coordinator is a member of the Care and Crisis Services team within the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) that provides overnight first-response protocols to students in crisis, campus emergencies, and for crises within Housing and Residential Life. They partner with on-duty staff to determine appropriate responses to overnight student issues of concern, and are available to reach any student living in Cornell contract housing on Ithaca campus in a timely manner. Community Response Coordinators aim to serve a broad range of individuals in crisis situations and collaborate within the campus' larger system of care to address the needs of community members, creating an intermediary level between current structures that appropriately balance the response with the need. Please note: This position is 10-months per year. In addition, this is a two-year fixed-term position, with an ability to renew for an additional 3-year term for a total maximum of 5 years, contingent on successful performance, continued funding and business need. Ability to build relationships and maintain trust, to assess and balance the needs of various stakeholders, and to identify and advocate for achievable solutions including connecting individuals to higher levels of care as needed through warm hand-offs and coordinating transportation if situations warrant transition to off-campus facilities. Knowledge, awareness and skills in conflict de-escalation, unconscious bias, mental health conditions, trauma informed responses and crisis. Commitment to approaching work with cultural humility and empathy for each individual. Ability to work independently and autonomously without direct supervision and possess the ability to make sound judgment calls when necessary and relay information appropriately and consistently. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in social work or related field with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience in a mental health or crisis management area (i.e. domestic violence shelter, sexual assault crisis support), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated understanding of crisis management, mental health and wellness. Experience working with diverse communities ( people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, low-income, religious minorities, people with disabilities, etc .). Strong understanding of student issues and trends as it relates to crisis, wellness and mental health. Ability to proactively respond to a wide array of issues or emerging student needs, showing good judgment about when to make referrals, set boundaries, and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy and resilience building behavior. Evening and overnight shift and weekend work required; occasional daytime hours will be needed for training, department meetings, etc. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, counseling psychology, or student affairs/development field. Experience working in higher education and/or with college students around crisis, mental health and/or wellness. Experience working with sexual assault survivors/victims. Experience with case management. Experience working with law enforcement agencies. Knowledge of civil rights laws including Title IX, federal and state laws and policies.
