Requisition Number: F_210125 Department: Biochemistry-0831 Description of Work: The incumbent holds a tenure-track 9-month appointment (academic year) as assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and conducts a successful research and teaching program in the broad area of lipid metabolism and/or lipid-based signaling that advances current knowledge in areas of nutrition and risk factors, and the mechanisms underlying obesity and relevant human diseases. In the research appointment the incumbent addresses important questions that build upon and expand current strengths of the Biochemistry Department, IANR and UNL , such as metabolic function and dysfunction, nutritional biochemistry, mitochondrial biology, obesity, immunometabolic responses, bioenergetics, and/or cell-cell and inter-organelle communication, working through complementary expertise and collaborations with colleagues in the Biochemistry Department, the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases, and other research centers such as the Nebraska Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication, Redox Biology Center, Virology Center, and the Center for Plant Science Innovation. Contributions to the teaching mission average 0.20 FTE , by providing expert knowledge of lipid metabolism, lipid signaling, and teaching in the core areas of biochemistry and the molecular life sciences, as well as recruiting, advising, and mentoring students. Specific teaching assignments may change according to program needs. The incumbent publishes research findings in peer-reviewed journals in the life sciences; participates in scientific meetings and other professional activities; and accepts committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university levels. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in grant writing, teaching in biochemistry or related fields, mentoring students, excellent communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
