About the Job
Texas Instruments (TI) is looking for an early career Life Safety Systems (LSS) Engineer to join our team. As a Facilities Engineer at TI, you’ll be directly responsible for the safety systems monitoring building utility systems in support of a semiconductor wafer fab. TI Facilities operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gasses, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls. As LSS system owner you will help support and build a reliable fire monitoring and LSS program supporting systems which are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a safe, state of the art manufacturing environment. 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide technical support to ensure proper interface between factory tools and facilities systems for fire and life safety systems (LSS), including hardware selection, controls programming, and proper monitoring, alarming and response procedures.
  • Ensure projects and systems are compliant with applicable codes, cost effective and meet the desired design criteria while adhering to budget and schedule guidelines.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair control systems and instrumentation including a variety of gas detection analyzers and flow and pressure sensors as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and program programmable logic control systems including PLC hardware, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and I/O interface modules.
  • Ability to understand process equipment, operating parameters and make decisions with engineering support to improve or maintain the associated controls and instrumentation hardware & software.
  • Develop and review operations and maintenance procedures/programs with team to ensure use of best practices.
  • Influence supplier performance via management and audits of work performed in the field.
  • Innovate and implement cost reduction projects that reduce operating and maintenance cost of responsible systems.
  • Develop relationships and communicate with engineers and personnel at other TI sites to foster best practice sharing and communication.
  • Successfully interface with fab engineering and manufacturing and maintain effective communication.

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field
• 3 years experience minimum


    Preferred experience, knowledge and skills:

    • Proficient in the use of SCADA systems to monitor and control site infrastructure systems.
    • Able to understand program logic and modify and develop SCADA screens.
    • Able to terminate instrumentation to a controller and perform calibration through the program interface. 
    • Experience with building and fire codes and hazardous occupancies
    • Able to troubleshoot alarms, field instrumentation, pneumatic and electric control valves, variable speed drives and motor starters.
    • Must be able to respond quickly to potentially critical situations, perform rapid, accurate assessments, trouble shoot systems and components to identify causes of failures, determine appropriate corrective actions, and implement these corrections promptly to mitigate the effects of system upsets.
    • Able to interpret and work from written instructions and drawings with minimal supervision.  Able to understand process flow diagrams and process instrumentation diagrams.
    • Knowledgeable in facilities equipment and processes
    • Computer/software skills - Outlook, Excel, Word, SAP, and AutoCAD
