Position Information: Position Title: Research Technician II â?? Epilepsy Lab - Part Time Job Group: Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in biology, genetics or related field Experience in a laboratory setting, including sectioning tissue, imaging and stereology Demonstrated knowledge of routine laboratory techniques and lab equipment maintenance Demonstrated ability to accurately record and summarize data Job Description: The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time term Research Technician II position. This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance for research activities in the Epilepsy lab of Dr. Thimmasettappa Thippeswamy, including sectioning tissue blocks, assisting lab personnel with experiments, imaging and stereology.  This position will also have molecular duties such as viral vectors, cloning, tissue culture, and blotting. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining lab equipment and entering orders. This position is part-time with the possibility of becoming fulltime based on funding availability. Summary Responsible for coordinating the testing of samples. Monitors and maintains lab equipment. Troubleshoots issues in the lab. Example of Duties Handle and prepare biological samples for sectioning. Provide technical assistance in research activities in the lab. Extract and process image-related information through imaging and stereology. Assist with immediate problem solving in respective area of testing. Collect, analyze and process research data from laboratory samples. Record findings by entering data into computer software. Communicate with lab personnel to discuss testing requests and results Maintain inventory of supplies related to assigned casework. Perform routine equipment and microscope maintenance. Clean and sanitize equipment and microscopes and maintain a clean laboratory space. Level Guidelines â?¢ Career-level position demonstrating proficiency and knowledge of related competencies â?¢ Works under direct to general supervision and may receive guidance on more complex assignments â?¢ Follows established procedures for work assignments, and completes assignments which are semi-routine and may be atypical in nature â?¢ Applies thorough knowledge to respond to inquiries and requests â?¢ Able to resolve most problems and issues and respond to requests without escalation â?¢ Provides guidance to students â?¢ May provide supervision to one to two other staff or lead a small work team Initial term will be 1 year, may be renewable based on funding. Initial working hours will be 20 hours as week there may be opportunity to increase hours for periods of increased workload.
