All other global Boeing locations do not have a vaccination requirement at this time.

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead an embedded real-time software (Harpoon) project.  In this position, you will drive a team to develop, integrate, test, and deliver software solutions for an international Harpoon weapons program, located in St. Charles, MO.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The operational flight software, resident test software, and integrated toolset is being updated to align with the expanding capabilities and functionality of the Harpoon and SLAM ER (Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response) missiles.  The project has a broad and growing customer base of both international and domestic customers.  Engineers in this segment work in all phases of the software development lifecycle.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Function as the Lead Software Engineer, guiding a software team through the entire software lifecycle

  • Train and mentor junior engineers; identify and promote knowledge sharing opportunities; and identify and achieve continuous improvement to processes

  • Communicate with internal and external senior leadership in program management meetings, engineering review boards, and program milestone reviews

  • Ensure software engineering excellence through software processes and independent verification and validation practices

  • Interface directly with customers and stakeholders, including coordinating requests for software changes

  • Coordinate with a multi-discipline engineering team to design, develop, and deliver operational flight software

  • Apply knowledge and experiences with software/hardware architectures, communication protocols, platform/weapon interfaces, and launch protocols

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. (St. Charles, MO)

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.   An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Required Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to obtain Secret US Security clearance (Post-Start)

  • 5+ years of experience with one or more of the following programs (C, C++, C#, Python, Java, Ada)

  • 5+ years of experience with software development on Windows or Linux

  • 5+ years of experience with Visual Studio, Jira, or git

  • 5+ years of experience with real-time embedded software development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience with weapon and/or aircraft interfaces

  • 1+ years of experience with Agile software development process

  • 1+ years of experience with leading software teams

  • 1+ years of experience with project planning and scheduling

  • 1+ years of experience with earned value management, program management reviews, and/or systems engineering technical reviews

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.


Domestic and international travel to support customers may be required.
