The Boeing Missile and Weapon Systems Team located in St. Charles, MO is seeking a Senior Navigation Analyst (level 5) to join some of the leading minds in industry to develop cutting  edge navigation solutions that will inspire you with their precision, mathematical technology, and implementation.  Our team is diverse and full of opportunities that will challenge you in new and intriguing ways, let you learn from a highly experienced foundation of team knowledge, and allow you to contribute from your unique experiences to expand the collective capability of the team.

The selected candidate will join a diverse group of Engineers in developing leading edge military systems and will work a wide range of programs to provide state of the art Navigator solutions to our customers that precisely tell the host platform where it is located, how it is oriented, and where it is going.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and lead activities with minimal oversight for a multi-level team that has a deep theoretical and practical foundation for developing cutting-edge models, simulation tools, and navigation strategies for systems using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor aided navigation techniques.

  • Work with minimal oversight to lead, develop, and employ complex navigation models, simulations, and analyses in order to design navigation algorithms and predict system performance for a variety of airborne weapon platforms.

  • Participate in defining requirements for implementing navigation algorithms in software.

  • Collect and review data with minimal oversight from hardware-in-the-loop tests and a fully functional mobile test laboratory to measure/validate navigation performance against design requirements.

  • Evaluate candidate sensor systems to increase navigation performance, decrease cost, and ensure compliance to requirements.

  • Have opportunities to travel to US and international locations to support flight test activities and troubleshoot operational and delivered product service anomalies where you will see in-person the awesome capability of our Air Force, Navy, and international customers.

  • Interact with some of the top navigation equipment suppliers, military experts, and civilian experts in the world while supporting team efforts to design products and review and analyze data to ensure compliance to requirements.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

  • 3+ years of experience with computer programming using software languages such as C, C#, C++, FORTRAN, or other common programming languages.

  • 3+ years of experience with developing or using modeling and simulation tools.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Knowledge of estimation theory (e.g. Kalman filtering).

  • Knowledge of GPS or other sensor aided navigation.

  • Knowledge of inertial navigation.

  • Knowledge of advanced mathematical principles as applied to aerospace analysis and modeling.  Examples could include transform methods, computational geometry, numerical linear algebra, optimization, computational math, numerical analysis, and Monte Carlo analysis.

  • Experience designing and analyzing navigation systems.

  • Experience using Matlab/Simulink.

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.


This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. (Basic relocation is available for internal candidates, based on candidate eligibility.)
