Position Specific Description

This internship position will support NextEra Energy's Information Technology Department, Digital Workspace team with a focus on end-user experience. Digital Workspace is all the technology a worker uses day to day, including laptop or workstation, associated hardware, and all the software installed on that device, as well as telephony, videoconferencing equipment, collaboration tools, etc. The End-User Experience team works with other groups throughout IT to ensure all these parts work together well to ensure our technology is an enabler for the user, making it easier to get our work done.

The cross functional nature of this position ensures that the candidate will have exposure to a wide variety of IT groups as well as business units outside IT. All of the employees and contingent workers at NextEra are our customers and we interact with them frequently to ensure we understand their need and concerns.

The blanket of End-User Experience touches all aspects of work in NextEra Energy, so the potential projects are myriad, but specifically we are focusing on the following initiatives:
  • Digital Collaboration - Standardization and simplification of the technology we use to collaborate. This includes software like WebEx and Teams for personal interaction, hardware in collaboration spaces like Cisco Videoconferencing Systems and Microsoft Surface Hubs, presentation systems for classrooms and auditoriums, and webcasting solutions for all-company events.
  • Modern Browsers - Microsoft has announced they will discontinue Internet Explorer in June of 2022, so we are working to shift our corporate browser standard to include modern browsers and identify / remediate web-sites and -apps that are not compatible.
  • Mobile Platforms - As the industry shifts more and more towards tablets and smartphones, we need to ensure workers can continue to be productive from their devices. The future of Digital Workspace is no longer tied to a desk.
  • Security - If you read the news, you are aware that there are constant cyber attacks on major corporations (like NextEra) - we need to ensure the solutions we are giving our end-users are secure while minimizing impact on usability. This is a careful balance, and the End-User Experience team works with the cybersecurity team to ensure we don't upset it.
