JOB TITLE: PARTS & SERVICE TECH III

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing advanced technician services including preventive maintenance, inspections, all aspects of basic and/or complex repair assessments, as well as making recommendations for any service, replacements and/or upgrades on aftermarket equipment and vehicles both onsite and via mobile field service. The Service Technician is also responsible for establishing labor estimates for repairs, including but not limited to creating parts list of materials for repair estimates, producing and reviewing bids, quotes, and sales orders.

Position Responsibilities:

• Perform basic and/or complex truck equipment preparations, installations and repairs on truck frames, bodies and equipment; suspension systems; and drive shafts per the Field Service Skills Matrix

• Perform basic and/or complex electrical/electronic system installation and inspection of assorted electrical circuits and components (light duty & heavy duty); battery systems; auxiliary electric power units; charging systems; and lighting systems per the Field Service Skills Matrix

• Conduct basic and/or complex electrical/electronic system diagnosis and repair; complex battery and starting system diagnosis and repair; complex charging system diagnosis and repair; lighting systems diagnosis and repair; and related vehicle systems diagnosis and repair per the Field Service Skills Matrix

• Conduct basic and/or complex diagnosis, installation and repair of auxiliary power systems - Pneumatic, Mechanical, and Hydraulic (Pumps; Filtration/Reservoirs; Hoses, Fittings, and Connections; Control Valves; Actuators; and General System Operations) Systems per the Field Service Skills Matrix

• Inspect, install and/or repair specialized welding equipment, compressors, aerial devices, cranes or high rails per the Field Service Technician Matrix

• Produce and review bids, quotes and sales orders, and recommend equipment replacements and upgrades

• Develop service business as a core branch competency by building and strengthening customer relationships providing excellent customer service

• Follow standardized repair procedures to be applied to duplicate warranty issues

Position Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

• High School diploma or GED

• 2 years technical school or equivalent experience

Experience:

• Prior experience with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs is required

• Technical assembly/repair or background experience is required

• Advanced welding experience is required

• AC and DC electrical experience is required

• 2+ years for tech III

• 5+ years for tech IV

Certification /License:

• Commercial driver’s license ( CDL) is preferred, and a clean driving record

Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced technical background with an understanding of all types of truck equipment related services and repair activity

• Advanced knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the installation of light and heavy truck bodies (dump bodies, line bodies, stick and articulating cranes, crane bodies, outriggers, aerial devices, hi-rail gear, wheel base alterations, lift gates, etc.)

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of vehicle electrical/electronic systems (battery, auxiliary electric power units, charging systems, lighting systems, computer controls, etc.)

• Advanced understanding and knowledge of Hydraulic, Mechanical and Pneumatic Systems

• Knowledgeable and proficient in key software for diagnostic work, reports and calculations

• Advanced knowledge, detailed understanding and proficient skills in welding, fabrication, diagnostic assessment, mechanics, and hydraulics

• Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and assemble piece parts and assemblies

• Ability to SAFELY operate and maintain welding, cutting, hand tools, power grinders, sanders, and material handling equipment

• Excellent customer service and communication skills

• Well organized and able to issue parts to orders, locate inventory, maintain general record filing, plan workload in detail, etc.

• Proficient with Windows PC and Microsoft Office, internet savvy (Google search, etc.)

Supervisory responsibilities: Supervise and mentor tech I and II employees

Work environment:

• At times a non-traditional work schedule is required, depending on work load

• Work may be performed on production floor or customer work site/side of the road

• Physical activities require considerable use of arms and legs, as well as moving the whole body – climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials

• Strong dexterity of hands, fingers and arms for grasping, manipulating, or assembling very small objects

• Must be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE)



Must have his/her own tools

Travel:

• Regular travel will be required, occasionally overnight travel will be required

• May require the delivery and/or pick up of chassis from customer sites and/or other RTE locations
