Location:  Remote (Eastern US or Mid-Western US)

Travel:  Approximately 50% travel including occasional travel to Chantilly VA area for BusPatrol’s training academy.  Travel will also include travel to school customer sites for special projects or escalated troubleshooting as needed.

Education:  HSD/GED required, Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar is preferred however not required.

Experience:  5+ years’ experience in a similar role functioning as a mechanical design engineer, quality engineer, fleet maintenance manager or warranty and returns engineer with an emphasis on bus or automotive electro-mechanical installed systems.

 General Summary:

The School Bus Expert is a critical partner in our Quality organization, working cross functionally with Field Service and Training to drive the proactive understanding of various bus makes and models to ensure exemplary service to BusPatrol’s customers.  The ideal candidate has advanced knowledge and passion for school bus makes, models, technology, and electro-mechanical systems. The ideal candidate operates autonomously, builds trusts, and consistently delivers results and has experience as Fleet Manager, Quality Engineer, Warranty and Returns or Maintenance Manager working with School Busses. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize extensive knowledge of electro-mechanical systems associated with school buses to ensure quality and accuracy in quotations and installations, field service troubleshooting and proactive training etc.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures and practices adhere to state and federal regulations regarding bus safety.
  • Work with field techs to build knowledge and understanding of various bus models including use of schematics and blueprints and user manuals.
  • Work cross functionally with BusPatrol’s Training team to develop training modules for specific bus makes and models.
  • Work with R&D to create new and innovative ways to equip busses with BusPatrol technology.
  • Understand and communicate OEM manufacturing warranty requirements and potential issues.
  • Provide guidance to field service techs on troubleshooting.
  • Propose approaches and solutions to solve new problems.
  • Maintain profiles on types of busses including basic engineering data on makes, models and years of busses.
  • Interface with end users of BusPatrol equipment including bus garage managers, maintenance managers, bus drivers etc.
  • Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices based on electro-mechanical systems. Develop hazard control methods, procedures, and programs to reduce risk.
  • Provides various safety reports for review to drive awareness in proactiveness in the installation process.

Position Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role functioning as a mechanical design engineer, quality engineer, fleet maintenance manager or warranty and returns engineer with an emphasis on bus or automotive electro-mechanical installed systems.
  • In depth knowledge and experience working with diesel and electric buses.
  • Experience working with schematics, blueprints, and user manuals.
  • Experience governing standard processes and procedures.
  • Experience with quality checks and audits.
