Position Summary: 

The International Students Coordinator advances the mission of Hobart and William Colleges to develop the intellectual, ethical and social foundations of undergraduates within a student-centered, liberal arts community. The International Students Coordinator serves as the primary resource for international students, providing immigration guidance and support, advising and advocacy, and overall community development. The Coordinator serves within the Division of Campus Life, and Office of Student Engagement, and collaborates with the Office of Admissions on the recruitment and retention of international students.

Essential Responsibilities:

The International Students Coordinator leads international student support in the following ways:

Work with students to craft their HWS experience by integrating academic, social, and personal aspects of student life – particularly as it relates to the unique experiences of international students.

Develop programs and projects designed to address the development of international students and enhance student success over their time at the Colleges; and to prepare them for personal and professional success.

Collaborates with institutional research on the Open Doors Report and other record keeping for the international population.

Advises student organizations, clubs, and theme housing to provide on-going support

Creates, manages, and supervises student leadership opportunities.

Advocates for F-1 Students as well as serves as a resource for US Citizens/Permanent Residents who live outside the US.

Collaborate regularly with Admissions and various offices across campus to support international students.

Maintains Student Exchange & Visitor Information System (SEVIS) governmental database for international students and plays a lead role in (SEVIS) compliance.

Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).

Keep current and up-to date knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, and policies.

Ensure compliance of international students such as maintaining status, reinstatement, change of status, OPT, CPT, filing for taxes, health insurance and other critical issues.

Develop and implement an international student orientation that onboards international students to HWS and the wider Finger Lakes community.

Work with the faculty and staff, particularly the Deans’ Offices, to support academic, social, and personal needs international students.

Maintain relationships with international student organizations such as NAFSA and NY-6 International Student advisors.

Help facilitate new student and returning student arrivals and departures, inclusive of assistance with housing logistics.

Support study abroad opportunities.

Services in an on-call rotation providing first level emergency response.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative hourly position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.  Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree Required

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across differences and with various constituent groups: students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.

Capacity for culturally responsive engagement with students and the wider community.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in facilitation/presentation.

Two to three years of experience in higher education, college admissions, student success, international students, and/or student development.

Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative

Strong customer service orientation; positive, helpful, resourceful

Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of others

Highly reliable, flexible and adaptable
