HJF is seeking a Scientist I to support the Wound Infections Department, located at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the Wound Infections Department.

The incumbent is responsible for developing and supporting research projects and investigating the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of immunology of infections, or medical microbiology; applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques. Designs and implements experimental protocols and techniques. (30%)
  2. Trains and assists in supervising technical staff. Coordinates projects and tasks with other technical and professional staff. (5%)
  3. Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data. Prepares status and performance reports. (25%)
  4. Provides collaborative assistance to other Research Scientists and Senior management that require the incumbent's expertise. (15%)
  5. Prepares funding documents, written reports, manuscripts for submission to scientific journals, and patent applications. (25%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of immunology of infections, or medical microbiology; applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques. Excellent communication skills; ability to troubleshoot technical procedures; ability to work independently and as a part of the team. Flexibility in problem-solving approaches. Professional interpersonal skills including collaboration, and networking.

Minimum Education: Doctoral degree required for this position.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience required for this position.

Work Arrangement: 100% on-site.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
