**Description:** Lockheed Martin is seeking a Staff Level Materials and Process Engineer with a specialty in Welding and Weld Processes to join our creative team of engineers within our M&P department\. The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in some of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control’s highly innovative and ingenious solutions to complex technical problems facing the aerospace industry\.

This exciting work will include combinations of Materials and Processing Engineering with performing Welding Process Audits, Qualifications of new Weld processes and Suppliers, Certifying Weld processes, and specifying Weld requirements and engineering\. The main Roles and Responsibilities of this position are as follows: Analyze, research, test, design and develop weld processes and materials and their related application\(s\) to develop and optimize materials and structural integrity for use in engineering design or production of and/or application in Missile structures, systems and subsystems\. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop mainly metallic material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes\. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, fabrication processes and quality engineering specifications\. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications\.

Also responsible for providing but not limited to Materials & Processes Engineering support for missile and canister development efforts, material selection and material testing in conjunction with using Microsoft Office tools\.

Tasks will include material evaluation of both missile and canister components and subassemblies, evaluation of material incompatibilities and evaluating and creating material requirements\. Tasks will also include reviewing and signing off on drawings, writing / reviewing engineering specifications and statements of work, as well as creating M&P support documentation\.

Works with Quality to ensure compliance with procedures and standards and developing and maintaining welding documentation within LM and supplier base\. Providing engineering support to Production\. Analyzing, and initiating corrective actions for quality or productivity problems, and providing recommendations for corrective actions\. The selected candidate will also provide Weld Process, Weld Qualification, and Welding testing support and for missile and re\-entry bodies, coordination and communication of development efforts with specialized material vendors as required, support and or lead material test planning and performance testing of metallic materials, and material selection\(s\) based on all environments and predicted flight conditions\. Tasks will include material evaluation and analysis of both missile, components and subassemblies\.

Additionally, the candidate will provide technical documentation and input to data packages to support peer and customer reviews, present analysis data to program and customer personnel at technical interchange meetings, and design reviews\. The candidate will also be interfacing and coordinating efforts with Structural Stress Engineers, Mechanical Designers, Thermal Engineers, Material & Process Engineers, Environments Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Laboratory Test Engineers, Production Operations, Subcontractor Management and other departments\.

**Basic Qualifications:**

Candidate must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance

Candidate MUST have the ability to travel and be willing to work off\-sight as needed for assignments

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Metallurgy or other related field with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree\.

Materials & Processes related background with experience in material selections, material specifications and evaluating materials based on those requirements\.

Experience and Project work involving weld design, fabrication, and inspection\.

Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints, machine drawings, 2\-D drawings, CAD drawings and material callouts and/or material processing note requirements\.

Experience supporting qualification activities for multiple welding processes\.

Understanding of principles of metallurgy and the effects of welding on metallurgical structures in stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and Titanium alloys\.

Experience with a wide range of welding codes i\.e\. AWS D17\.1, D17\.2, D1\.1, D1\.2, D1\.6, D1\.9, and Mil\-Std\-3057\.

**Desired Skills:**

Possess at least Department of Defense Secret Clearance with having a re\-investigation performed within the last 6 years\.

Excellent writing and verbal communication skills for generating M&P support documentation, material test plans, material and process reports, and potentially proposals are necessary\.

Candidate must be capable of performing in a fast paced, dynamic environment, and working in an inclusive, team environment\.

Considered experienced but still a learner\.

Candidate must have strong analytical and organizational skills\.

Familiarity and basic understanding of FEA and structural analysis\.

Experience interfacing with suppliers for failure analysis and process development\.

Experience in failure analysis of weldments\.

Familiarity and Some experience with additive manufacturing processes\.

Proven leadership with demonstrated interpersonal skills\.

Familiarity with Missile programs at MFC

Greenbelt certification or lean manufacturing experience

This position requires a self\-starter who can multi\-task across several projects on a routine basis\. Domestic and international travel is required\.
