Summary

The Institutional Research & Educational Assessment Analyst is responsible for scheduling online course and instructor evaluations as well as analyzing data from quarterly course and instructor evaluations. This individual will also coordinate collection of program academic assessment plans and program outcomes measures and conduct statistical analyses and educational research on student learning outcomes and the operation of the University.  This individual reports findings internally to administration and externally to government and accrediting agencies.  The Office of Institutional Research and Educational Assessment’s (OIREA) mission is to serve the University’s needs for the design, collection and assessment of institutional data that facilitates evidence-based decision making.  The position requires knowledge of data acquisition and higher education assessment.  This position reports to the Director. 

Essential Duties

  • Collaborating with designated staff to create online course and instructor evaluations
  • Compiling and disseminating quarterly online course and instructor evaluation reports
  • Conducting the University’s learning assessment program
  • Coordinating data file preparation, conducting statistical analyses (using SPSS), and preparing reports for the Midwestern University Office of the President, federal and state agencies, and other external bodies
  • Preparing and disseminating monthly enrollment reports
  • Fulfilling ad hoc requests for data and information from offices on campus, government officials, and others

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to collect, compile, analyze and report data from internal information systems
  • Ability to create and adapt SPSS syntax
  • Thorough knowledge of descriptive statistics (frequencies, cross-tabulation, and means/medians)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Accuracy of work, attention to detail, time management skills and ability to meet deadlines is essential
  • Knowledge of institutional research techniques preferred
  • Experience with advanced research methods, statistical techniques and quantitative methods preferred

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Educational Research, Statistics, Behavioral Sciences or other field relevant to institutional research required.  Master’s degree is preferred.1-3 years of effective experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data required.  Experience in developing and using reporting and analysis tools to present data to a variety of audiences.  Proficient in the use of computer software for data extraction, verification and analysis.                              

Computer Skills                                               

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite which includes Word, Outlook and an emphasis on Access and Excel.  Knowledge of relational database such as SPSS, Access and Excel are required.

Language Skills                                                

High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors. 

Reasoning Ability                                             

High skills:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. 

Mathematical Ability

High skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
