Government Relations Director Sr - Inclusive Advocacy and Policy

This position supports Inclusive Policy and Advocacy and will be responsible for engaging with various communities e.g., disability, aging, LGBTQA+, and Foster Care, and addressing the relevant healthcare policy, collaborations, and benefit design issues and opportunities. 

Focus areas include but are not limited to: Serving as a subject matter expert on disability, aging, and MLTSS policies, initiatives, and plan activities; RFP support; stakeholder engagement; advocate convening; and Social Drivers of Health.


Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Represents the enterprise and its specific businesses in advocacy efforts. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with advocates, community-based organizations, policymakers, and their staff that will support membership and growth.
  • Develops and implements strategies to advocate enterprise positions to support business goals and objectives, which may include: establishing and implementing proactive strategies to bring new products or extensions of current products to market; monitoring market databases and product review to analyze opportunities. 
  • Makes internal and external written and oral presentations on behalf of the company such as conference presentations, disability/aging/disparities competency sessions. 
  • Develops coalitions and targets grassroots capabilities. 
  • Manages budgets and issues of importance to the enterprise and contracted lobbying staff, and may act as a team lead. 
  • Serves as a leader in trade associations and other advocacy organizations to influence their positions, tactics, and strategies to support enterprise goals. 
  • Generally supports the most complex legislative and/or regulatory environments at the state and federal levels. 


Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 10 years of legislative, policy, advocacy, public affairs, or community based organization leadership experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. MS preferred.
  • Must have experience with any of the following areas of expertise such as disability, aging, foster care, social drivers of health, health disparities etc.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with consumer engagement

Annual Salary Range*: $142,800 - $178,500

Actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level. 

* The hourly or salary range is the range Anthem in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. The Company may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.
