The Ploegh Lab is looking for a Research Assistant, whose main responsibility is to support the day-to-day functioning of a collaborative and cutting edge research laboratory that studies molecular aspects of immune recognition and biochemistry of the immune system more generally.

This Research Assistant II will be responsible for: 
  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.
  • Assist with daily lab operations.
  • Order supplies.
  • Keep lab supplies stocked and equipment in working condition.
  • Prepare stock solutions and tissue culture media supplements.
  • Maintain a database of lab expenses including supply purchases and facilities and core costs. Provide PI with monthly accounting of spending.
  • Keep databases of lab reagents (chemicals, antibodies, plasmids and frozen cells).
  • Oversee animal colony (including breeding and maintenance of knockout lines) and keeping track of animal inventory and cage counts.
  • Train new employees on lab procedures, safety and methods.
  • Assists with ensuring compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
  • Submit all published plasmids to Addgene.
  • Assist with protein purification, cell culture, genotyping, and cloning.
  • Arrange transfer of materials to and from other labs.
  • Deal with vendors

To qualify, you must have:
  • BS in a STEM-related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience
  • Experience with animal colony maintenance preferred.
  • Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
