Position Information: Position Title: Postdoc Research Associate - CCEE Appointment Type: Post Doc/Trainee Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of Principal Investigators/Director of the PROSPER program at InTrans, the duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate will be: Conduct research (field, laboratory, and analytical work),   provide advanced scientific and technical support, and coordinate project tasks for existing and forthcoming interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects on transportation/pavement infrastructure systems. Develop technical specifications, standard processes and procedures, technical guidelines, software tools, and so on to meet the expectations of the sponsoring agencies.   Conduct research on smart, sustainable and resilient airport/highway pavement systems and unpaved roads. Conduct data collection, cleaning, quality assurance, analysis, and model validation tasks. Manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Write and participate in the preparation of peer-reviewed journal papers and research proposals. Participate in reporting to funding agencies and present results to key stakeholders. Work collaboratively with industry and academic partners involved in research grants. Proactively engage in discussions with other research groups to gather data and insights necessary to complete interdisciplinary research work. Communicate effectively (frequently and concisely) with the project and PROSPER team, supervisors, and sponsoring agencies. Lead and assist/supervise undergraduate and graduate students on multiple research projects. Keep and maintain accurate and detailed records of all research performed with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic. Be able to work on an unconventional schedule and travel on short notice (typically day trips or 8-10 overnight stay) to respond to sponsoring agenciesâ?? requests. Must adhere to all campus and EH&S safety policies. This position is funded through competitive research grants and industry. The successful candidate will be offered a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal for additional years. No renewal is guaranteed and will be dependent on further grant support.   Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Engineering, Sciences, or Design with an emphasis on pavement/geotechnical engineering and/or transportation infrastructure systems field Preferred Qualifications: Research background in pavement/granular road systems focusing on lab and field investigations, field instrumentation and monitoring, performance evaluation and modeling, mechanistic-based analysis and design concepts, innovative construction, maintenance and rehabilitation strategies and technologies, life-cycle cost analysis, and transportation asset management Demonstrated knowledge and experience in laboratory and field tests and investigations on concrete, aggregate, soil materials and soil stabilization technologies for pavement and granular roads Demonstrated knowledge and experience in geographic information system (GIS) programming and automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image and signal processing, statistical analysis and programming, and other data processing, analysis and visualization tools for pavement and granular road design, analysis, and performance evaluation and predictions; Demonstrated experience in developing technical specification, standard processes and procedures, technical guide, software tools and so on for federal, state and local transportation agencies Demonstrated programming skills (or ability to learn new programming languages quickly, e.g., MATLAB, Python or Java) to develop codes for research projects and tasks; Demonstrated experiences in lab and/or field instrumentation and monitoring by using various sensor types (strain gauges, temperature sensors, moisture sensors, and so on), and data acquisition systems; Knowledge in finite element analysis and numerical modeling with at least one numerical modeling software (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) Excellent technical writing skills proven by peer-reviewed journal publications and research project reports are a must as the successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to proposals and publications Experience in proposal writing and assistance for competitive research grants and industry; Experience managing multiple tasks/projects Familiarity/experience with pavement and granular road construction with the related specifications; Four years of relevant research experience (including graduate research studies), as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications Proposed Start Date: September 13, 2021 Proposed End Date or Length of Term: September 30, 2022 Number of Months Employed Per Year: 12 Month Work Period Time Type: Full time Application Instructions: To apply for this position, please click on â??Applyâ?? and complete the Employment Application.
