FF Y22 - Traveling Field Interviewer

**Job Description:**

Westat is currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to work as traveling field interviewers for an important study, the Year 22 Survey of Parents and Families, conducted for Princeton University and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

Protecting the health and safety of our employees and survey participants is a top priority for Westat. Based on recommendations from the CDC and other public health authorities, we require staff to protect and monitor their health while working on their assignment, which may include the use of personal protective equipment, regular testing for COVID-19, or other screening activities.

**Basic Qualifications**

Candidates must:

+ Be 18 or older (or an emancipated minor) with the ability to enter binding confidentiality agreements to protect project information;

+ Be able to complete a mandatory home study training prior to the field interviewer training; and

+ Be able to attend in-person field interviewer training the week of October 11, 2021. Training materials will be mailed out the week of October 4.

Training dates may be adjusted and are contingent on COVID-19 rules and regulations.

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Be available to work the data collection period from October 2021 through December 2022.

+ Be willing to work 25-30 hours per week, and up to 40 hours while on travel status, including evenings and weekends, when work is available.

+ Be willing to travel as needed, either locally or to other study cities, for project work. Long-distance travel in a car or via airplane is possible.

+ Be able to use online locating sites and other sources to locate and access sampled respondents, using records from the previous rounds of the study.

+ Demonstrate good communication skills.

+ Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations:

+ Lift and carry 20 pounds of equipment and materials;

+ Walk several blocks; and

+ Climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment.

+ Have a valid (current) driver’s license that is not under suspension.

+ Have regular access to an insured, reliable vehicle.

+ Have regular and reliable access to a high-speed broadband internet connection.

+ Have regular and reliable access to a telephone service with a long-distance calling feature, either landline or cellular.

+ High school diploma or GED equivalent.

**Preferred Criteria**

+ Experience working on previous rounds of the FF Survey of Parents and Families (at years 9 and/or year 15).

+ 2-3 years of previous interviewing experience.

+ Bilingual in English and Spanish.

+ Experience working on household interviewing projects.

+ Demonstrated attention to detail.

+ Able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
