The Data Engineer for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for helping shape an innovative digital diagnostics portfolio of new offerings that use machine learning and AI technology to improve clinical outcomes, and you will collaborate with a team of highly skilled software engineers and data scientists to deliver these predictive analytics to healthcare providers via integrated CDS solutions. You will accomplish this by being hands-on and collaborating with your team, other business groups, electronic health record (EHR) vendors, clinicians, and hospital IT teams. Your projects will leverage data from medical diagnostics and electronic health records to deliver actionable insights.

This position is part of Beckman Coulter Diagnostics and is a REMOTE position or based in one of Beckman Coulter’s offices in Brea, CA, Miami, FL or Chaska, MN. You will be a part of the Clinical Decision Support Solutions team and report to the Sr Data Scientist responsible for the design, development and delivery of machine learning solutions for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements for ML projects and build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, AWS, and Azure ‘big data’ technologies.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets from disparate sources, writing code, scripts, and queries, as appropriate, to efficiently extract and harmonize data.
  • Identify, design, and implement continuous process improvements such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  • Document data processes, write data management recommended procedures, and create training materials relating to data management best practices.

  • Advanced degree (Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred) in engineering, science, mathematics, or related field with healthcare experience. Familiarity with healthcare data standards, data ontologies, toolchains, and operating procedures.
  • Experience in developing and managing enterprise-scale data warehouse, data marts, and multidimensional data models with a successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% is required (post-pandemic)

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Knowledge of the latest machine learning and data visualization methods as applied in business contexts. Knowledge of shared data science development and analytics environments such as JupyterLab.
