**Description:** Shipboard Installation Technician

Employee will work in an industrial shipyard environment performing shipboard installation tasks in support of Aegis Weapon System Shipboard Alterations \(SA\) and Ordnance Alterations \(OA\)\. Will perform tasks associated with removal, installation, and testing of system components, cables, connectors, and associated ancillary/interface equipment\. Will be assigned as required with an Alteration Installation Team \(AIT\) working 40 or more hours per week, as needed to meet schedule commitments \(overtime\)\.

May spend up to 75 percent of time in a travel status \(both domestic and international\)\.

**Basic Qualifications:**

Ability to communicate with various levels of internal and external management, customers, and suppliers\.

Ability to comprehend and safely carry out shipboard installation tasks\.

Ability to complete certification training and complete recertifications, as required\.

Ability to support potentially high travel volume; travel domestically and internationally up to 75 percent of the time\.

Ability to obtain an interim DoD SECRET security clearance prior to starting this position\. Obtaining a clearance requires US Citizenship\.

Experience with shipboard installations including:

\- Existing cable rip\-out and roll\-back \(including testing and cable/connector inspection\);

\- Power and data cable installation;

\- Power and data connector termination;

\- Opening, closing and testing Multi\-Cable Transits \(MCTs\);

\- Finalizing installations for space turnover to ship’s force \(i\.e\. cable tagging/banding, final quality assurance inspections and remediation\)\.

Ability to read and understand shipboard mechanical and electrical drawings\.

Ability to work in a team environment with Alteration Installation Team \(AIT\) Leads and Technician Leads directing weekly/daily objectives\.

Knowledgeable in Mechanical and Electrical installation/modification standards and methodology including NAVSEA Standard Items\.

**Desired Skills:**

Copper cable termination certification and/or cableway inspection certification in accordance with DOD\-STD\-2003\.

Fiber Optic cable certification in accordance with MIL\-STD\-2042 \(Shipboard fiber certification/cable handling\), MIL\-STD\-1678\-1, NAVSEA SI 009\-04 and 009\-123\.

OSHA Maritime 10\-hour Training Course \#7615\.

Experience with requirements of current NAVSEA TS 9090\-310; Shipyard Competent Person \(29 CFR 1915, NFPA 306\); ESH 40 CFR Hazardous Waste Management; ESH 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Transportation\.
