Department Overview

Risk management at Wells Fargo is organized with clearly defined lines of defense to provide effective risk oversight and decision-making across the organization. Each line of defense is assigned specific responsibilities and understands the associated activities it is expected to perform.

Independent risk management is Corporate Risk, which is responsible for independent oversight of risk-taking activities. The function is led by the chief risk officer, who reports to the chair of the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors. Strategic enterprise function-aligned leaders in the Corporate Risk organization provide an independent view of horizontal, cross-business risks.

Operational risk is the risk resulting from inadequate or failed internal controls and processes, people and systems, or resulting from external events. Operational risk is inherent in all Wells Fargo products and services as it often arises in the presence of other risk types.

About the Role

This role reports into the APAC Operational Risk Transformation, Analytics and Governance Leader within the Independent Risk Management function.

Responsible for the development and ongoing execution of reporting, analytics and governance routines across the region and this candidate will work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and support partners within APAC Operational Risk, the region and globally


  • Design and implement second line risk and control reporting and associated workflow across the region.
  • Develop risk data and analytics across the region (with the ability to aggregate information at Line of Business, legal entity, risk type and regional level) to drive development of risk profile for APAC.
  • Implement an integrated analytics, reporting and administration infrastructure to support the group and leverage resources for multiple, on-going activities /initiatives.
  • Provide insights on the regional issues management and operational risk event programs, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement of stakeholders across lines of business, enterprise functions and US based data analytics teams to source risk data and develop into meaningful Management Information to be used by Operational Risk Business Oversight team and regional governance forums.
  • Partner with Tech delivery teams to build-out requirements for more strategic development programs.
  • Develop and execute information sharing routines across the APAC team. Use knowledge of current key topics to drive reporting routines across the region; status reporting, agenda setting for regional governance forums, input to challenge of front line outputs and the development of independent opinions regarding the risk profile in the region.
  • Coordinate and complete operational risk-related regulatory self-assessments and provide support for regulatory examinations of APAC Entities.
  • Support the APAC Operational Risk team in the development, implementation and monitoring of a risk-based program for APAC to identify, assess and mitigate operational risk while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
  • Run projects and initiatives on behalf of the TAG Leader in a semi-autonomous manner.

Market Skills and Certifications


  • Significant experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both;
  • Or 10+ years of IT systems security, data analytics, business process management or financial services industry experience (including consulting / audit).
  • Direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both preferred

  • Proven experience in a specialist analytics team in a Financial Services Risk Analytics function
  • Proficiency in analytics / data management / business intelligence / workflow toolkits (e.g. Excel VBA, SharePoint, Tableau etc.)
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner; use data to create powerful presentations ('storyboarding') to support a point of view in order to gain stakeholder buy-in and support
  • Strong experience and business acumen in the financial services industry and regulatory environment.
  • Proven ability to drive and influence successful execution of change initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to influence and consult strategically across a large organization and with various levels of leadership /stakeholders
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Meaningful knowledge of the enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance
  • Strong understanding of corporate / business policies, and programs
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across the organization, which includes virtual, matrixed leadership experience
  • Proven leadership skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions
  • Demonstrated professional ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies
  • Proven ability to scope, manage and execute complex risk management initiatives with high quality and timely delivery
  • Flexibility and business savvy to navigate a complex, highly-matrixed organization
