The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Full Stack Software Developer to join the Autonomous Maritime Undersea team located in Herndon, VA.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The role is as part of the Maritime Undersea organization supporting national security missions for many Department of Defense and Intelligence Community agencies. The software engineer will be part of an agile team decomposing legacy, monolithic applications into microservice, cloud native solution. You will utilize architectural expertise to drive well-defined bounded modeling, design for loose coupling services, and design APIs and events to enable inter-service communication. You will define, implement and maintain the continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline, while leveraging best practices to implement clean code, security and automation.  You will operate in a fast paced and dynamic environment, and you must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a self-organizing agile development team. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written are important to succeed in the role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work and collaborate in a fast-paced team environment to deliver high-quality products using established agile development methodologies against formal schedules

  • Design and write clean, extensible and scalable code leveraging industry best practices

  • Perform code reviews and provide feedback on code quality and best practices

  • Develop documentation and design materials, and recommend best design practices

  • Take responsibility for technical problem solving, creatively meeting product objectives, and developing best practices

  • Set up, maintain and refine CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins, OpenShift etc…)

  • Mentor and support engineers from source control, through build automation, merge resolution, CI, test automation, and deployment

  • Use responsive design to provide an optimal experience across all devices

  • Create rich, interactive user-experiences with modern technologies with a focus on performance, scalability, security and maintainability

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active) and an ability to obtain SCI Post-Start.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Top Secret Clearance and ability to obtain SCI post start

  • Experience / strong skills in software engineering and architecture, including object-oriented design and concurrent programming

  • Experience with Java or C++

  • Experience with microservice architecture and ability to design, develop and implement scalable, elastic microservices

  • Experience with at least one modern client side JavaScript framework or library (React, Angular, Vue etc...)

  • Experience working in Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI/CD) using appropriate code versioning, build and test automation tools

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between

  • Expertise in distributed computing architectures using service bus, and related technologies

  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, including networking, server management, and information security

  • Experience working in an agile environment

  • Strong technical knowledge, with hands-on experience in product development in a variety of computing architectures and environments

  • Strong understanding of professional software engineering principles and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Solid computer science fundamentals

  • Working knowledge of containerization (Podman, Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud deployment

  • Experience mentoring engineers

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience)

  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Travel: 10-20%
