Occ Summary

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planni ng, development andimplementation of experimental procedures within the overall scope of aresearch project at Duke University.


Work Performed

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, de velopment andimplementation of experimental procedures and specialized l aboratorytechniques in the analysis of materials under experimentation.C ollect information and data through observation, experimentation andvarious other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratoryinstr uments and equipment.Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures , and deviseexperimentaltechniques for tests and analyses.Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analysessetting forth p rogress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendationsor conclusions.Co nfer with principal investigator in determining specific experimentsto b e included in the research protocol and to discuss theinterpretation of results.Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abr eastof new developments and to obtain information regarding previousexpe riments to aid in the design and development of original proceduresand t echniques.Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or lowerlevel personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.Perform oth er related duties incidental to the work described herein.The above stat ements describe the general nature and level of workbeing performed by i ndividuals assigned to this classification.Thisis notintended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilitiesand duties required of personnel so classified.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.


Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
