The Boeing Flight Planning and Dispatch team is seeking a Software Developer 3 to develop and sustain a flight planning calculation engine system that calculates commercial and military flight plans for airline and business customers around the world, located in Englewood, CO

The successful candidate will drive the daily execution of product development in a fast-paced agile environment.  We seek candidates who have skills in agile methodologies, software development and test automation.

As a member of the Flight Planning and Dispatch JetPlan team, you will be involved in the entire software development life cycle, from idea creation and development, to maintenance and support of the customer’s delivered system in both the cloud and in their own data centers. The position will place you in a role where you have the opportunity to make a strong impact in the delivery of our product offerings and guide the future of flight planning solutions and algorithms. The Flight Planning and Dispatch team offers a collaborative mentoring environment where you have the opportunity to learn from or lead others.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Estimate user stories/features (story point estimation) and tasks in hours with the required level of accuracy and commit them
  • Contributes to the refinement meetings by promptly asking relevant questions to ensure requirements achieve the right level readiness
  • Works with the Product Owner to confirm that the code and acceptance tests reflect the desired functionality
  • Raise any impediments/risks (technical/operational/personal) they come across and approaches Scrum Master/Technical Architect/Product Owner accordingly to arrive at a solution
  • Update the status and the remaining efforts for their tasks on a daily basis
  • Ensures change requests are treated correctly and tracked in the system, impact analysis done and risks/timelines are appropriately communicated
  • Develops working software towards committed objectives and plans
  • Delivers working software in accordance with expected quality standards
  • Designs for testability: design and evolve the system to support testability and test automation
  • Works on prototyping and evaluates technical feasibility
  • Supporting CI/CD processes

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ Years of experience with C/C++
  • Experience with GIT (examples: Bitbucket, GitLab Azure DevOps, git-flow will be a plus)
  • Experience with build tools (examples: Gnu Compilers, Cygwin, Intel, ARM, etc.)
  • Experience working as a part of a distributed team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Fortran or similar programming language
  • Knowledge of X11
  • Knowledge of Java
  • Experience with Perl
  • XML and JSON
  • Good knowledge of container solutions: Docker, etc.
  • Knowledge of any relational database: PostgreSql, H2, SQL Server, etc.
  • Knowledge with developing and deploying applications in Linux/Unix/CentOS/HP-UX
  • Experience with Cloud Solutions (Azure, AWS, Google)
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitLab)
  • Great understanding of Agile principles and hands on experience of at least one Agile software development methodology like Scaled Agile Framework
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Experience analyzing data and making data-driven decisions
  • Customer facing experience
  • Detail oriented, analytical, and inquisitive
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Extremely organized with strong time-management skills
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns
  • Experience in Enterprise Software Design

Typical Education & Experience:


Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master+4 years' related work experience, 10 years' related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Summary pay range: $77,000.00 – $137,000.00”
