We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within our Chemical Science and Engineering Division (CSE).

In this role you will:
  • Focus on two-color x-ray pump/probe experiments at x-ray free-electron laser facilities aimed toward understanding the physicochemical regime in radiolysis with an emphasis on material systems associated high-level waste, i.e. sodium-aluminate mixtures at high alkalinity.
  • Provide instrumentation design, setup and testing, data acquisition and interpretation, development of data analysis routines, write journal publications.
  • Interact and perform collaborative research within the AMO group, with accelerator physicists and data scientists at the facilities and as part of the IDREAM EFRC network.
  • Remain knowledgeable of progress in relevant fields of research.

Position Requirements

We expect you to have:
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in one of the following areas: ultrafast laser, free-electron laser or synchrotron sources and associated instrumentation and methods; molecular, cluster, or liquid-jet systems.
  • Considerable experience with development of data analysis routines.
  • Good skill in conceiving and implementing experimental methods, planning and conducting experimental procedures, and analyzing and interpreting measurements.
  • Good ability to communicate scientific information orally and in written reports and publications.
  • Ability to work independently on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research group.
  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a Ph.D. in physics, chemical physics, physical chemistry or optics and 0 to 1 year of experience/equivalent.
