We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within our Chemical Sciences & Engineering Division (CSE).In this role you will:
  • Conduct fundamental research in electrochemical reaction synthesis towards production of battery material precursors.
  • Perform a series of electrochemical synthesis/conditions to produce inorganic chemical compounds.
  • Perform electrochemical/chemical reaction modeling.
  • Conduct operations and design and implement reactors for electrochemical oxidation synthesis reactions from feed mixtures in electrochemical cells.
  • Design, develop, and implement experimental plans for utilizing and fabricating electrochemical cells for evaluation of electrochemical processes.
  • Determine current-voltage relationships and apply knowledge to improve electrode kinetics of operation.
  • Apply experimental plans and perform hands-on experiments.
  • Analyzedata, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings with non-Argonne collaborators to review results and data, develop experimental work plans, and to define project goals and objectives.


Position Requirements

We expect you to have:
  • Knowledge of electrochemical engineering processes to produce inorganic chemical compounds.
  • Knowledge in the field of chemistry and electrochemistry, particularly experience in electrosynthesis, membranes, stabilized anodes, aqueous electrolytes, and the purification and separation of chemicals.
  • Experience in electrochemical or chemical reactor design and their operations as well as engineering principles associated with high temperature and high pressure reactions.
  • Knowledge in wet chemistry, electroanalytical methods (CV, bulk electrolysis), chemical manipulations, and hydrothermal reactions.
  • Experience using breadboard system of operations (mixing, separation, temperature/pressure control) and reaction control (chemical and electrochemical).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field that has been completed within the last three years.
