Job Description:

The Research Assistant will be responsible for performing specific laboratory activities for the generation of products, execution of assays, development of new assays, or advancement of scientific projects, potentially across multiple departments. They are expected to help manage the laboratory space and contribute to non-science activities as needed.

Organizational Relationships
Responsible to and receives primary direction from a supervising Scientist, Senior Scientist, or Principal Scientist. Works collaboratively with scientific team, quality control/assurance, supply chain, and facility staff to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Minimum Education
A Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.

Experience and/or Qualifications
a. Must have experience working in a laboratory and using a laboratory notebook to record activities; laboratory experiences gained in laboratory classes is considered acceptable.
b. Should be detail-oriented, organized, able to exercise good judgement and prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

2. Scientific Activities
a. Follows standard operating procedures to contribute to product manufacture, quality control testing, and release.
b. Performs a variety of basic molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or immunology experiments and assays under supervision.
c. Records and interprets scientific results to present to senior colleagues.
d. Performs BSL2 work in compliance with company policies.
e. Performs assays according to standard operating procedures; contributes to assay development under supervision.
f. May perform in vivo animal studies in support of project goals, including tumor cell implantation, administration of test articles, and optical or nuclear imaging.
g. Prepares and presents internal and external presentations.
h. Helps identify assay and protocol deficiencies, working with supervisors to develop and implement solutions.
i. Performs assays on clinical patient samples as needed.
3. Laboratory Maintenance
a. Maintains necessary reagents (including eukaryotic cell lines) for assigned scientific activities.
b. Maintains and operates standard laboratory equipment as assigned, including centrifuges, PCR machines, QIAcubes, TECANs, etc.
c. Disposes of bio-hazardous waste following safety procedures.
d. Keeps assigned lab space in a clean and operational condition.
e. Prepares common laboratory reagents, buffers, and media.
f. Maintains proper supply levels in laboratories.
