The Equity Capital Markets business in New York originates, structures and executes equities, equity-linked and strategic equity transactions on behalf of HSBC's clients. Principal products and services provided are as follows: Initial Public Offering (IPO), Follow-On Offering, Share Buybacks, Convertible Bonds and Exchangeable Bonds. ECM NY also provides strategic equity transactions, including Equity Hedging/ Financing, Equity Risk Management, Yield Enhancement, Enhanced Disposals and Stake Building.

The successful candidate for the Analyst role will work in the Equity Capital Markets team within the Global Banking team in New York. The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be to work with and support the team in originating and executing transactions covered by the team.

ECM Analyst is a key role within the ECM team, responsible for working with Directors / Managing Directors to implement ECM and the wider Investment Banking Group's strategy. As a junior on the ECM team, you are responsible for helping to both win new business and execute / lead ECM transactions. You will be routinely interacting with clients and internal stakeholders from a very junior level and will learn valuable critical thinking and financial analytical skills. You will work as a generalist, covering a wide array of industries and both small cap as well as mega-cap clients. You will come in for a career track role -- the HSBC ECM team differentiates itself through elite training and retention of junior talent by working in a small, close knit team on a wide range of products and services across cash equities, equity-linked and strategic equity lines of business.

Your role will be to support ECM management in the implementation of the team's strategy to maintain a strong, sustainable deal pipeline across the platform, in line with the group purpose, vision and values through building, and maintaining client relationships and engaging with other bankers across the global HSBC network. ECM NY is part of a global ECM business with other offices in Europe, Middle East and Asia. You will routinely interact with members of our global network to execute HSBC's business strategy.

Customers / Stakeholders
  • Internally: Global Banking Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Equity-linked Capital Markets (ELCM) and Strategic Equity & Financing (SEF) Bankers, other product and sector teams and coverage bankers
  • Externally: Global Banking clients, selected Commercial Banking clients across the sectors

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare pitch materials as well as market and economic updates as part of the origination of equity, equity-linked and strategic equity products, across all industry sectors across the Americas
  • Liaise with Global Markets teams in sales, research and trading to deliver capital markets advice to our corporate clients
  • Manage the day to day execution process, liaising both internally with other teams within HSBC as well as with clients and other advisors externally
  • Create and interpret financial models and involvement in transaction structuring
  • Assist with issuer due diligence on mandated transactions
  • Coordinate roadshow meetings with investors
  • Assist with investor questions during marketing
  • Interact with the investment banking team, industry sector banking teams, and other capital markets teams in other regions
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the wider ECM, ELCM and SEF businesses, as well as other stakeholders across Global Banking, Commercial Banking and Global Markets
  • Keep abreast of latest happenings in the product area and keep the relevant stakeholders informed with regular market and transaction updates
  • Maintain internal database on transactions and perform critical administrative tasks
  • Ensure all aspects of control, from credit to KYC to compliance, are in good order
  • FINRA Series 63 and 79 licenses required. A contingency period to obtain licensing can be provided at management's discretion.


Qualifications

  • Recent graduates - 5 years. All majors welcome
  • Finance or accounting knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to navigate financial statements and conduct financial ratio analysis
  • Background in financial modelling and valuation a plus
  • High levels of motivation and strong worth ethic with a desire to learn and succeed
  • A strong understanding and interest in the financial markets
  • Self-confidence, motivation and reliability with strong team spirit
  • Willingness and preparation to work extended hours on a regular basis in an office environment
  • FINRA Series 63 and 79 licenses. These can be obtained after joining if not currently held
  • Permanent right to work in the United States
