Michael Baker International is seeking a Director, Engineering Applications to join our team. The Director, Engineering Applications will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Michael Baker engineering application landscape by leading a team of business and IT resources.

The successful candidate will work with engineering and business leaders (Regional Directors, Office Executives, Practice Leaders) and strategic partners (Autodesk, Bentley, Bluebeam, etc.) to drive and develop digital enablement solutions. These solutions will be focused and aligned with the overall strategy of Michael Baker, the business objectives, and requirements of internal and external customers.

This role will drive the vision, enable innovation, and implement engineering solutions that create business value. It will also be responsible for providing the strategic direction for the department on an enterprise level, analyzing trends, and developing long-range plans designed to enable our core offerings as well as pursue new work.

Engineering and Solutions Partnering

  • Develop robust engineering applications teams with deep business process expertise in the areas of engineering applications such as 3D/4D/5D design/build, eConstruction, CAD Systems (Autodesk, Bentley, Bluebeam) and other partners such as ESRI, Microsoft, etc.
  • Establish best practices for key engineering systems and business processes
  • Implement collaboration tools to facilitate knowledge sharing and workshare
  • Partner with training teams to ensure training materials have been developed to support key processes
  • Establish and facilitate practice-specific Technology Focus Groups to help ensure alignment with business and IT goals
  • Support the Technology Strategy Council's process to ensure that solutions with the highest business value are selected and implemented
  • Implement and support cyber security application and data management NIST and CMMC controls
  • Work with business owners to identify short and long-term solution alternatives and enhancements that will improve business performance
  • Develop process to monitor customer satisfaction and changing requirements related to implemented solutions
Resource Management

  • Lead and motivate a highly functional team-based environment; responsible for the recruiting, development, and support requirements of all direct personnel
  • Assist and coach staff in areas of continuous improvement, customer service orientation, and career development
  • Organize a scalable and agile team to accomplish tasks in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
Solution Delivery Lifecycle Management

  • Implement and oversee standard system lifecycle processes for Commercial off-the-shelf (COTs) technologies; ensure SDLC compliance and quality by reviewing assumptions, alternatives, technical designs and configurations at critical project milestones
  • Coach and guide staff to ensure that projects are completed on-time, within budget, and according to customer requirements; periodically report status and issues to project sponsors and/or the Technology Strategy Council
Solution Maintenance Support

  • Maintain solution and security configuration information from the time a solution is implemented through retirement
  • Manage solution availability and performance to ensure that current and future needs of the business can be met; includes recovery, and business continuity services
  • Support implemented solutions from training through end-user support; utilize processes and systems to identify, analyze, track, and resolve problems as related to developed solutions

  • Financial: budget and fiscal responsibility for a $10M-$15M capital and expense budget; must also be able to develop, analyze, and manage financial impact (cost, benefit, ROI) of business/IT projects
  • Leadership: ability to translate business, technical, and cultural knowledge into actionable strategies for change; drives performance in professional and business groups through coaching, guidance, and feedback mechanisms

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Master's Degree preferred; additional degree or certification in an IT-related field a plus
  • 10 years of related engineering experience with 5 years of management experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, activities, and tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with industry regulations, cyber security, and best practices
