The primary role of the research director of thought leadership for the national office-occupier team is to partner with the global head of occupier research in creating and delivering a proactive agenda that of research-related, client-influencing materials. This role supports the Advisory & Transaction Services segment of the business. The Research Director of Thought Leadership for the National Office-Occupier Team should seek opportunities to participate in client meetings, be visible to the real estate community, seek external speaking opportunities as well as partner with Marketing to develop and promote market analysis and timely outputs, including original white papers, addressing market trends.


Develop presentations, whitepapers and other content that positions CBRE as the dominant voice in the industry and market

Interact with leadership and sales professionals within CBRE, as well as key clients in the market

Create and maintain high levels of business engagement for research initiatives

Support, drive and leverage global, regional and local research initiatives as needed

Partner with Marketing to ensure CBRE research get maximum media exposure

Develop the Research Thought Leadership agenda nationally, by:

  • Analyzing market trends and incorporate findings into presentations and white papers
  • Evaluating processes and tools for developing advanced information and analytic approaches as a key driver of differentiation
  • Evaluating opportunities to extract customer relevant insights from existing data




This is a high-profile role that demands an experienced professional with strong analytical skills, the ability to create actionable, commercial insights, and superior presentation skills.

The person in this role will be comfortable representing CBRE's perspectives on property and market dynamics in the national office space.

This role requires the 'client' care of multiple internal and external constituencies-sales professionals, management, media, real estate associations, clients-by providing relevant insights on market conditions and trends.


BA/BS from a four-year college or university in economics, finance, business administration or related field of study. Masters preferred. Minimum 8-10 years of related experience.

Minimum 6 years of commercial real estate experience. Extensive local market/sector knowledge/experience required.




Exceptional communication skills. Ability to synthesize information and translate ideas/concepts and trends into "consumable" insights, both in written and presentation format, that help internal and external clients use Research effectively in business development and decision-making. Ability to speak to the media about trends and topics.

Must have strong presentation skills for speaking engagements & client presentations.


Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Reviews complex financial/business analysis and reports prepared by subordinates. Ability to analyze the most complex business/financial data and develop innovative solutions. Develops and implements financial policies and procedures. Approves and oversees department budget.


Effective/efficient problem-solver. Can make informed decisions when presented with conflicting information or opinions. Able to exhibit sound judgment and provide a clear path to resolution. Ability to work as a team player in a matrixed environment. Can navigate the dynamics of a large company, with a centralized Research function, while also understanding how to support/align global, national and local initiatives.

Strong technical skills with a proficiency Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and amenable to learning and overseeing new technologies and systems related to data collection, extraction and tracking.

A mastery understanding of Research fundamentals and methodologies. Knowledge of how to apply research and data analytics expertise to the benefit our brand and core businesses.

Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.

Strong project management. Can lead/oversee multiple large and complex projects, determine priorities and develop a through-line to completion, including harnessing the right resources and collaborating along the way. May utilize internal resources to assign sub projects.
