This position is within Advanced & Applied Technology chartered for R&D and will be based in New Jersey.  The work will include laboratory experiments, piloting / scale-up, and analysis & simulation.  Under limited supervision, the Scientist will use deep technical knowledge to complete projects and deliver high-impact results, provide technical leadership in materials science & engineering, and contribute in the development and demonstration of aerospace products including gas turbine engines, mechanical components, air and thermal management systems, and sensors.  The successful candidate will work in teams, develop, execute, and communicate a recommended project plan as part of a larger cross-functional team (including marketing, engineering, and manufacturing) and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute R&D projects as project leader or team member
  • Complete tasks within planned schedule and budget
  • Generates proposals and technology roadmaps with internal or external funding
  • Develop technology to Technology Readiness Level 6 and successfully transition to Engineering and Manufacturing organizations 
  • Conduct project documentation and technical reviews across multiple sites
  • Capture intellectual property with patents and trade secrets
  • Contribute to our world-class safety and environmental stewardship program by always operating in a safety-conscious manner.
  • Develop technology that provides competitive advantages at the component and system levels 
  • Share knowledge with technical community and business units
  • Convince others within the organization where strong interest exists to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches 


  • PhD, in Material Science & Engineering (thick film ceramic coatings, processing/synthesis of advanced ceramic in micro- and nano-scale, CMC/MMC composites, characterization techniques)  OR  MS degree in Material Science & Engineering plus 5 years’ experience in R&D of materials and processing.
  • Due to US export control laws must be a US Citizen, permanent resident or have protected status.
