The Optical Payload Center of Excellence \(OPCoE\) enables new frontiers in visible\-light and infrared systems, missile defense, space exploration and much more\. Our members integrate authorities across the nation, within Lockheed Martin, our industry partners and leading research universities, into one fast\-acting, collaborative group\.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include being the Certified Principal Engineer \(CPE\), and:

• Work with systems engineering and subcontractors to develop specifications

• Assure electronic circuitry designs and optical components with specific characteristics fit within specified mechanical & power limits and perform according to specifications

• Manage a team developing designs, analyzes, and tests for optical and electro\-optical systems and components

We are looking for a strong background in electro\-optical engineering\. This would include both practical and theoretical knowledge of laboratory hardware for electro\-optical sensor and component characterization\. You should demonstrate effective verbal communication, develop concise and professional technical presentations, and deliver briefings to peers, leadership, and US Government customers\. We are seeking a new colleague who is willing and able to work in a classified environment\.

You would typically have a Bachelors degree and 7\-10 years of professional experience, a Masters and 5\-8 years, or a PhD and 2\-5 years\.

**Basic Qualifications:**

• Experience with integration, test, and/or verification of electronics and sensor systems

• Experience with project planning, work breakdown structures, and reporting

• Experience with imaging focal planes

• Experience deriving requirements and writing specifications based on customer requirements, and/or development of verification plans and approaches to support development

• US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

**Desired Skills:**

• Extensive experience with electronics processor requirements and usage

• Knowledge of a wide range of detector technologies for use in the full optical spectrum from ultraviolet \(UV\) through long\-wave infrared \(LWIR\) wavelengths

• Knowledge of laser remote sensing and/or laser\-based free\-space optical communications theory, applications, systems and techniques

• Experience with both direct\-detection and coherent\-detection techniques

• Ability to develop novel sensor concepts and architectures, including: strawman sensor concept design; architecture trade studies; feasibility analysis; modeling and simulation; optical design

• Expertise in optical theory and design, including radiometry, geometrical optics, physical optics, Fourier optics, adaptive optics, and/or fiber optics
