Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Position is located in Melbourne, Florida.

Essential Functions:  This role supports an operational program environment by coordinating and leading agile teams as a Product Owner.  You will have the opportunity to become the subject matter expert for various subsystems of the aircraft and contribute to the overall design of the software.

This role requires experience in software assurance/cybersecurity as it relates to software development to ensure that the final software meets all necessary design parameters. 

Requires hands on technical experience and a can do approach towards environment automation and management along with continuous improvements.

Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, and architecting complex solutions supporting the building and test plan execution, performing quality reviews, and triaging and fixing operational issues. 

Take ownership of hard problems driving to a solution, while working in a team environment and provide leadership for its implementation. 

It is critical that you understand the software development life cycle and have an in-depth knowledge of automated testing.

Participate in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

Apply technical expertise in solving complex integrations problems.  

Interact with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers, therefore excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential. 

This unique and exciting role is a position in which one has the opportunity to work with an operational customer facility in a dynamic environment where one can directly impact mission success; therefore requiring a willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to the client site. You will support hands-on engineering testing working side-by-side with customer on fielded aircraft!

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 5-years of software engineering experience OR a Master’s Degree in (STEM) with 3-years of software engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in (STEM.)

Demonstrated experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages 

Position requires at minimum an active DoD Interim Secret or Secret level clearance to apply and to start on Day 1, with the ability to obtain and maintain a full DoD Secret level clearance and special program access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient with Linux Red Hat 6.x, Red Hat 7.x, and Windows 10 administration. 

Proficient in: C++, python, Java, Bash, Visual Basic, and Qt

Knowledgeable with Agile Software processes

Knowledgeable with DevOps processes and tools

OOA/OOD Methodology

Familiarity with VxWorks and Virtual Environments

Familiarity with Atlassian Product Suite

Proven track record establishing productive customer relationships.

Prior experience managing fielded support equipment.

Familiarity with Fibre Channel, Serial, Ethernet interfaces

Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF)
