Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a process-oriented self-starter who will report to the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division Engineering Process Improvement (EPI) Manager, and will be responsible for leading Software Development (Dev) and IT Operations (Ops), to shorten system development lifecycles and provide continuous high-quality software delivery.

As a DevOps expert, the qualified applicant will aid in the planning and execution of focused investments for improving and evolving integration of DevOps products for the benefit of Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD), Ground Systems Sustainment Contract (GSSC), and other division programs. The desired candidate will focus on Engineering processes and tools, but also support other functional areas related to program execution: Program Management, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Production, Logistics, and Business Management.

This position will be located in Roy, Utah, and will support the business portfolio for the SDS Division.

DevOps leadership responsibilities include:

Supporting developmental efforts for the SDS division engineering processes and tools integration investments, and coordination with subject matter experts (SMEs) responsible for planning, organizing, and developing engineering processes specific to our portfolio of products

Researching, designing, developing, and/or modifying enterprise-wide systems and applications software, and being involved in planning of systems and development deployments, while meeting software compliance standards

Evaluating interfaces between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of overall system, while documenting testing and maintenance of system corrections

Interfacing with GBSD, GSSC, and other program leaders, to identify and plan investments that address engineering priority gaps and improvement areas

Integrating cross-functional processes covering the entire program lifecycle

Identifying giver/receiver artifacts and deliverables

Working with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), functional teams, and other stakeholder organizations to ensure process intent, best practices, and lessons learned are captured

This position requires a detail-oriented candidate with abilities to:

Implement automated applications and transition organizations to cloud technology, while focusing on overseeing an organization's continuous integration protocols.

Use practices to automate processes that historically have been manual and slow, using a technology stack and tooling to help operate and evolve applications quickly and reliably

Develop and execute methods to ensure transparency for applications, collaborate with quality engineers or product managers on issues like operability and application capacity management, and evaluate the performance, usability, and security of applications

Lead large and complex projects in the DoD environment

Understand the interactions among the various engineering tools, disciplines, roles and responsibilities

Understand issues from multiple viewpoints

Influence without authority while navigating program and organizational landscapes to lead diverse teams in achieving breakthrough results

Demonstrate a high standard of accountability to function autonomously, with little direction, supervision, or oversight

Work collaboratively while leading a team

Basic Qualifications Principal Systems Engineer:

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university. 5 years of technical experience; 3 years with a Master’s degree; 0 years with a Ph.D.

Excellent software development skills, strong analytical abilities, effective problem solving skills, and strong communication skills

Agile software development methodologies & practices

U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret DoD Security Clearance, with a periodic reinvestigation closed within last five years

Basic Qualifications Sr Principal Systems Engineer:

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university. 9 years of technical experience (7 years with a Master’s degree; 4 years with a Ph.D.)

Excellent software development skills, strong analytical abilities, effective problem solving skills, and strong communication skills

Agile software development methodologies & practices

U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret DoD Security Clearance, with a periodic reinvestigation closed within last five years

Preferred Qualifications:

A strong background in data center migrations

Hands-on experience transitioning on-site physical servers to cloud services, with expertise in operation, provisioning, and maintaining distributed applications

Amazon Web Services (AWS) certification

Digital systems, communications networks, and IP networks experience, with hands-on experience in network interconnections and interfaces

Experience with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, or virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR)

Knowledge of latest HW approaches and technology evaluation

Experience in system security: needs, requirements, and testing

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
