Recycling Technical Program Manager 5679BR Golisano Institute for Sustainability CIMS CSP & C3R Detailed Job Description As a core member of the GIS dedicated research team, this position will lead and develop the recycling research program at GIS. The Recycling TPM will provide deep industry experience and technology know-how to conduct applied research and to develop new technologies to improve the economics and material recovery rates in recycling. The person selected for this position will leverage first-hand knowledge of recycling of polymers or electronics (e-waste), including technical and business processes. They will also lead outreach and project development activities with material recycling facilities, e-waste processors, recycling technology suppliers, and companies designing products. This position will actively lead technology development teams working on applied research projects in a wide array of recycling applications. Major responsibilities include: Develop, lead, and execute business plan for recycling research activities. This includes but is not limited to: developing business plan and projects for recycling testbed, conducting outreach/business development and collaborating with GIS' marketing team to attract companies to the program, leading assessment of companies' recycling processes. Build relationships with industrial customers and funding agencies. Lead technical teams of researchers and students in development of new recycling technologies and capabilities. Lead the preparation of project proposals and project execution for recycling technology development. Develop personal and organizational expertise in technical areas of recycling; present and publish technical results of research and coordinate development and delivery of short course training programs. Research center projects are led by full-time professional staff with significant industry experience and access to nearly 90,000 square feet of infrastructure including state- of-the-art labs and testbeds. Required Minimum Qualifications Education: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of related work experience is required, with at least 5 years working on recycling research, or recycling process or equipment development. Skills required to perform the job: Strong knowledge of recycling industry and material separation processes Strong technical capability in degree area Experience leading teams Strong motivation to advance the state of the art in recycling Experience in a research/development role in recycling area Good understanding of recycling financial and business models Evidence of leadership in project management. Skill in project scoping, managing project resources, and developing relationships with partners. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously Experience interacting with customers Strong communication and writing skills Strong problem solving and strategic thinking skills Self-starter with ideas to bring to the GIS team Interest and ability in working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Comfortable soliciting input, valuing others ideas and expertise Comfortable working both independently and cooperatively with other team members and project partners Preferred: An additional advanced degree in engineering or business (MS, MBA, PhD) is strongly preferred.
