Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Position is located in Melbourne, Florida. This site is the center for design, development, and rapid prototyping of advanced airborne surveillance and battle management systems critical to our nation’s security. 

Essential Functions:

The selected candidate will become an integral member of Northrop Grumman Aeronautic Systems’ Enterprise Open Architecture team, interfacing to an industry-wide Collaborative Working Group, contributing to the design and development of open mission standards, and designing and implementing rapid prototype proof-of-concept software demonstrations.

Mentor other engineers on the team

Lead small teams in rapid prototyping efforts and demonstrations

Work independently and identify solutions to complex problems

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9-years of software engineering experience OR a Master’s Degree in (STEM) with 7-years of software engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in (STEM) with 4-years of software engineering experience

Experience developing software with languages such as C/C++,  Java, and/or Python

Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development

At minimum, an active DoD Secret level clearance is required on Day 1 to start, however not required to apply. Position also requires the ability to obtain and maintain program access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other related field with 15+ years’ experience

Experience with Agile development

Experience with DevSecOps tools and technologies (e.g., Jenkins, Gitlab, Nexus, Bamboo)

Experience with container technologies and container management with Kubernetes

Able to lead small teams in rapid prototyping efforts and demonstrations

Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems

Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours

Experience in U.S. Government Working Groups and/or Consortiums

Preference to work in software/hardware integration and rapid prototyping

Working knowledge with the Air Force’s Platform One initiative

Ability to install/configure/customize DevSecOps tools

Familiarity with GitOps

Support declarative continuous integration and deployment pipeline configuration

Working knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP) based networks, Software Engineering design, development and test methodologies

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
