Title:  Senior Manager, Sales and Business Development

Department:  CDMO, Sales and Business Development / Regional 
Site/Location:  Field Based within Assigned Territory  

Position Summary
The Sales and Business Development Manager for the assigned regional territory is accountable for commercial results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and for driving CDMO revenue for assigned business segments within the assigned territory. Business segments include Development Services (DVS), Drug Substance (DS) manufacturing, and Drug Product (DP) manufacturing. Additionally, s/he is responsible for building and managing a robust and active funnel of clinical and commercial opportunities across these business segments to faciliate new client acquisition. The Sales and Business Development Manager within Emergent’s CDMO Business Unit has a strong scientific understanding of biologics, including vaccines and gene therapy product  development and manufacturing with a proven track record of sales experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or CDMO industries.  The Senior Sales and Business Development Manager is a highly organized and motivated self-starter with a tenacious drive and a demonstrated ability to generate and close new business opportunities by effectively driving a complex technical sales cylce. S/he will also be responsible for managing a portfolio of active client relationships within the biopharma sector and to further expand these relationshhips and business opportunities. This position is field based and requires up to 50 percent travel on an as-needed basis, which may include international travel. The position requires a demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-growth culture, as well as expertise in the functional competencies included in this position profile.
Essential Functions
• Plans and implements a cohesive and actionable sales strategy for her/his assigned territory, including the acquisition and management of business from small and large biopharma where building and cultivating relationships, identifying opportunities, and new business development skills are critical to drive the  growth for the CDMO Business unit..
• Researches, identifies and develops new preclinical, clinical, and commercial development and manufacturing prospects from multiple sources including outbound leads from cold calling individual and prospecting efforts, email campaigns, and inbound leads from the company web-site and other marketing-led activities.
• Represents Emergent’s CDMO business by attending trade shows and conferences and maintaining active membership and participation in industry groups and networking events.
• Owns lead generation process for biologics Drug Substance and Drug Product development and manufacturing within the assigned territory, including management of the full sales process from prospect identification to close of business.  Includes lead generation, proposal value proposition and pricing strategy, proposal follow-up, and contract negotiations.
• Maintains an active and driving role as a primary stakeholder on the project team along and is accountable for driving the territory budget, and short- and long-term account strategy.
• Serves as a subject-matter-expert for biologics Drug Substance and Drug Product development and manufacturing.
• Owns the customer relationship for assigned services; maintains and drives continuous improvement and communicates customer needs internally.  Collaborates internally and externally to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
• Works closely with Commercial Development to ensure deals are in-line with the needs of the business segments and Emergent strategy
• Drives year on year growth of new business from existing and new accounts within the assigned territory.
• Maintains accurate customer data and updates to the Customer Relationship Management system (Sales Force). Generates timely reports (i.e. activity reports, metrics, sales targets or forecasts) as requested.
• Assists in gathering market intelligence by reporting noteworthy information regarding customers, competitors and the marketplace, internally. Monitors and reports on market and competitor activities and provides relevant reports and information.
• Collaborates with Marketing to develop marketing campaigns and analyze inbound marketing data/trends to drive new business.
• Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Chemistry, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering) required. Advanced scientific or business degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in CDMO sales and business development, project management, contract management, or pharmaceutical or CDMO laboratory experience required.  5+ years of experience preferred.
• Prior pharmaceutical or CDMO/CRO services work experience preferred.
• Prior external sales, account management or business development experience preferred.
