HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.

Responsible for immunology experiments identifying vaccine correlates of protection from HIV/SIV acquisition and of HIV/SIV control. Performs in vitro laboratory assays to measure antigen-specific T cell responses and their transcriptional profile via multiplex qPCR and RNA Seq. Maintains laboratory notebook, analyzes primary data, and presents results internally within the laboratory. Provides laboratory and technical support to other lab members.

  1. Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data, and maintaining databases. Makes detailed observations on experiments. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation, as directed by supervisor. (70%)
  2. Maintains lab reagent and consumable supplies needed to conduct laboratory experiments. Facilitates the necessary administrative and logistic processes to order and receive materials. Maintains lab inventory databases and SOP documentation. (10%)
  3. Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures. Ensures the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected tasks. May provide basic instruction to other lab staff. (10%)
  4. Prepares technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks. Provides quality control, troubleshooting and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment. (10%)
  5. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques, aseptic tissue culture, flow cytometry, and PCR; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills; superb database management skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work related experience required.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
