Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Director of R&D for a Direct Hire opportunity in Portland, OR.  PHD preferred (1-3 years experience, but soft skills are key), or a Master's with around 5+ years experience.

Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing duties relates to new monoclonal antibody development, and new recombinant antigen development by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties

1. Oversees production of new hybridoma cells lines.

2. Oversees production of recombinant proteins.

3. Oversees that R&D documents are translated into formal production records.

4. Manages lab technicians within the R&D departments.

5. Oversees that all equipment related to R&D is maintained and functioning.

6. Manages production crew, prepares work schedules, tracks PTO, and conducts performance evaluations.

Job Duties

• Oversees high throughput screening of new hybridoma cell lines.

• Manages purification of antibodies and other proteins via Protein A, Protein G and IMAC.

• Directs characterization of antibodies by ELISA, Ouchterlony testing, SDS-PAGE and western blotting.

• Supervises production of recombinant proteins in mammalian and bacterial host systems.

• Oversees buffer and reagent preparation.

• Supervises general lab maintenance and other duties as assigned.

• Trains Lab Technicians within the R&D department.

• Ensures all procedures are documented properly for technology transfer to Production Labs.

• Tracks and manages inventory.

• Coordinates with Logistics to ensure that all materials and supplies are available for required work within the R&D department.

• Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.

• Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

• Respectfully takes direction from Director of Operations and President.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the R&D Laboratory department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience

Doctoral degree or equivalent in biology, chemistry, biotechnology, medical technology, or related scientific field. Five to ten year(s) related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience in mammalian cell culture is required.

• Experience with techniques for antibody characterization is required.

• Experience in molecular biology is required.

• Experience in antibody cloning and expression is preferred.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, and exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type or dial, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
