The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Engineering team, where they will work on new and emerging prototype designs as well as existing programs as an Automation Engineer.

Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The selected candidate(s) will work in a dynamic, people-focused environment where he/she will interact with product designers, manufacturing technicians, quality engineering and test engineering. Automation engineer will design and develop new automated system processes, guide the design for automation of new product designs, troubleshoot existing automated work cells, and investigate and implement continuous improvement.

- Designing and programming industrial and collaborative robot cells from scratch and writing complex robot software

- Programming robot path motion calibration and teaching vision systems.

- Loading completed programs into robots/controllers and configuring I/O as well as using Github for configuration management of program loads.

- Internet of Things device setup, support and analytics

- Design for automation of opto-mechanical components

- Design and validate new processes and fixtures.

- Proposes new capital and research and development projects and monitors financial performance and project management of these projects

- Create manufacturing engineering documentation for use of robotic cells

- Troubleshoot deployed automation cells to determine root cause of failures and identify corrective actions.

- Apply continuous improvement techniques to drive down costs and improve automation efficiency - Review existing product for automation potential

- Performing virtual commissioning using robotic simulation software

- Owns the manufacturing process with in depth understanding of the requirements, process, equipment, tooling & techniques as learned through in depth process analysis, participation, process observation, and communication with the cross functional team

Basic Qualifications:

Qualifications for Automation Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics or related discipline plus 2 years related work experience.

•Experience implementing automation solutions in a manufacturing environment

•Must have fluency in MS Office software applications

•3D Solid Modeling experience using a CAD software

•Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (U.S Citizenship Required)

Qualifications for Principal Automation Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics or related discipline plus 5 years related work experience.

Experience in industrial and collaborative six axis robot programming such as FANUC or Universal Robots.

Experience setting up various robot communication protocols (i.e. DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet IP).

Able to read Mechanical, Electrical and Pneumatic schematics and blueprints. Experience using 3d printer.

Experience in CAD/CAM software such as Unigraphics/NX, Creo, etc. Experience with Vision Systems, proximity sensors, actuated rods, etc. Troubleshooting experience with PLC programs

Strong communication skills, organization skills, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Proficient in MS office: powerpoint and Excel

Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Robotic simulation experience with Siemens Process Simulate or similar automation simulation software

Experience with Fanuc industrial and collaborative robots

Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience with Microsoft Project. Active security clearance.

Ability to do basic/intermediate programming in other programming languages (i.e. C# or Labview)

Ability to draw/update prints.

Understanding optical ray traces.
