Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Essential Functions:  

Support an operational program environment by developing new capabilities, testing, troubleshooting, and resolving problems/anomalies. Support all facets of the software design, development, and integration life cycle for software. This position offers an opportunity to learn the technology stack through self-guided study and mentorship from senior engineers on the program. There are opportunities to solve exciting and technically challenging issues contributing to the design of the overall system.

Participating in the full life-cycle of software development including; requirements, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance using best practices and standards.

Analysis of change requests and requirements for a new software support capabilities, software, implementation of software using C++, python scripts, and other programming tools.

Cross-team collaboration with various sub teams to integrate functionality with other IPTs

Become familiar with all aspects of the software life cycle, working with other IPTs to develop a design, formalize it with requirements, design documentation, implementation, and formal testing.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university with 5-years of software engineering experience OR a Master’s Degree in (STEM) with 3-years of software engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in (STEM.)

Experience developing software / writing code in C/C++ and/or Java

An active DoD Secret or Top Secret level security clearance is required to apply and to start on Day 1, with the ability to obtain and maintain program access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

Experience in Software Test

Familiarity with Rhapsody, Eclipse, Atlassian Tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, Crucible, Bamboo etc..)

Familiarity with Agile software development process

Experience with Python

Eclipse or other integrated development environment (IDE)

Knowledge of Linux systems with basic commands
